Mosaic is rightfully considered the most spectacular and at the same time practical decoration for a pool. This method has its roots in the distant past and even today you can find many preserved fragments that have not lost the brightness of their colors.
Pool finishing with mosaic
If you decide to use glass mosaics for decoration, you should look for very high-quality products from companies with a good reputation. The sizes of the tiles are most often 10×10 or 50×50 cm. With their help, they create incredible color transitions and lay out unusual patterns that extend onto the walls.
All mosaic models for pools are characterized by minimal water absorption, which allows them to easily withstand frosts down to -30°C or heat under the scorching rays of the sun up to +150°C. Fragments of mosaic tiles for the pool are applied to a special mesh or mounting paper: this makes it easier to work with curved surfaces.
If you accidentally let something fall heavily to the bottom, you won’t have to replace the entire cover. Mosaic pieces are much easier to replace than tiles. Finishing a pool with mosaics, if done correctly, allows you to forget about the issue of covering the pool for 50 years. That is why the most difficult and long period, as a rule, is the selection of patterns and colors.
Laying mosaics in the pool
The work is quite painstaking and it is better to entrust it to professionals. Everything happens in several stages.
- It is important to carefully prepare the surface. It should be as smooth and dry as possible. Before laying, apply a layer of a special waterproofing compound. Then this layer is reinforced with a mesh with 5×5 mm cells for strengthening.
- After preparing the surface, markings of the future pattern are made on it.
- The mosaic in the pool is laid using a special adhesive mixture. It is applied to an area of no more than 1 square. m with a special notched spatula. After treating this area, you can apply glue to the adjacent ones.
- A day after everything has hardened, you can begin to grout the seams. First, the coating is washed off any remaining glue. Next, a composition with a latex additive is applied to the seams.
- After laying the mosaic for the pool, at least two weeks should pass. After this period, you can collect water.
- During operation, you will not have to resort to any special techniques to care for the mosaic. Simple, non-aggressive products without acids will help clean the surface. Every five years it is recommended to carry out a complete reconstruction of the sutures.
