An interior partition, as a rule, is an additional structure, not load-bearing or permanent. Accordingly, it can be made from lightweight materials. Basically, with the help of such a partition, residents divide a large room into several or zone the room.
Unlike a wall, an interior partition is less solid, so let’s find out what is best to make it from. We will not talk about those interior partitions made of bricks, foam blocks or panels that are installed during the construction of a house, but those that we install ourselves at our own discretion.
Selecting material for interior partitions
When choosing a material for a partition, you need to decide on the frame and filler. Thus, the role of the frame can be performed by aluminum, wood, PVC, MDF, chipboard or fiberboard. The filler is glass, plasterboard, wood, plywood, aluminum lining, plastic panels, etc. Sometimes these materials are combined.
The choice must be made based on the functional purpose and tasks assigned to the partition. If it will separate the bathtub from the toilet or bidet, then an interior partition made of plastic and opaque glass blocks would be appropriate. Its height and width may vary. Ideally, the partition should move so that, if necessary, you can isolate yourself and then reopen access to the rest of the room.

If you want to divide one room into several, but there is no goal of making them completely soundproof, you can install an interior partition made of plasterboard and aluminum (in an aluminum frame). It will have a flat surface and can be covered with wallpaper or subjected to any other finishing. Other advantages of drywall include fire resistance, breathability, and the ability to make partitions of any configuration. If it is necessary for the enclosed rooms to be soundproofed, the partition can be supplemented with a layer of mineral or glass wool.

Even lighter interior partitions used for zoning a room are made of fabric. They rather resemble retro screens. Young ladies used to dress behind such designs. And since today the fashion for everything antique is returning, such a partition will become a highlight in your apartment.

If you want to divide the room, while leaving the space light and airy, you will like the option with a glass interior partition. If desired, you can complement it with blinds and close them, hiding another part of the room from view when necessary. Double glass with blinds in the middle will act as a soundproofing material.

Interior partitions made of wood and timber are a frame made of veneered profiles or solid wood with one or another filling. These partitions are not much different from aluminum ones; in fact, only the material used to make the racks differs. The wooden partition can be made from MDF profile. In this case, it is something between a wall and furniture. You can mount furniture elements in it, for example, open shelves, a computer table, shelving systems or a wardrobe. Resourceful people manage to combine such a partition with a pull-out bed.

Modern partition designs are quite lightweight and can be installed in any room. You can embed sliding doors into them or make them sliding ones yourself. Spacious new buildings make it possible to plan a variety of options for additional partitions in apartments, making them more comfortable and ergonomic.
