Often the old linoleum fails, and to give the room an attractive look again, we decide to put a new flooring.
If linoleum width is not enough for a seamless flooring, then you have to put it in several stripes. Naturally, there are seams between them that must be glued. To do this, several methods have been invented – hot and cold welding of three types.
Hot welding method We apply only if there is a construction hairdryer, and the linoleum itself should be intended for this. Usually, linoleum in public places with great cross -country or in production is welded.
In residential premises, such linoleum is usually placed, which simply cannot withstand heating to such high temperatures, of which the method of hot welding requires. In a word, we will not consider this method in detail, but we will turn to a simpler, household method of cold welding.
How to glue linoleum in home at home?
So, as already mentioned above, cold welding can be of three types: A, C, etc. How they differ and what is the peculiarity of each – let’s find out.
- Cold welding type A: Applying, provided that you put fresh polyvinyl chloride linoleum. The glue that is produced “welding” has a liquid consistency, so that they can even eliminate the smallest cracks. The glue acts like this: it melts the edges of linoleum and thereby welds them, after which all joints become completely invisible.
- Cold welding type C: It is used when it is necessary to glue the dispersed seams on the old linoleum again. In consistency, the glue is thicker, so it fills a wide gap and reliably fastens linoleum sheets. In this way, the seams can be sealed with a width of up to 5 mm.
- Cold welding type T: Suitable for such difficult cases as gluing the linoleum on a thick felt sole. This glue is used by professionals. After application, it forms an elastic transparent connection.
How to glue linoleum at home-a master class
So, in order to independently glue the seams between linoleum canvases at home, you will need such tools and materials:
- construction knife;
- metal ruler;
- glue for cold welding (in our case, type a);
- paper (painting) adhesive tape;
- roller for attaching tape;
- gloves and face mask.
Preparatory work
First, you need to properly prepare the edges of linoleum, which will subsequently glue. Put the lanes overlap – the overlap should be a few centimeters. Clean the edges on both sides with a rag. To protect linoleum from glue, paste it to the edges with painting tape first, then from above.

We align the stripes of linoleum and cut them with a knife on the metal ruler, immediately cutting out two layers. In order not to scratch the base, first lay under the linoleum plywood.
Another way is to dock two stripes, stick adhesive tape on them, cut it with a clerical knife along the joint between linoleum canvases.
Clutching linoleum
We move directly to the question – how to glue linoleum vaski. When all preparatory work is completed, it remains to gently apply the glue between the two stripes. We press the needle of the tube into the gap and pass along the entire length of the seam. The solution (glue) should appear on adhesive tape by about 5 mm. We press on the tube smoothly so that the glue is applied evenly.
After 5-10 minutes, tape can be removed, and the resulting glue tubercles can be cut off with a sharp knife. Complete solidification will occur after 2 hours. If you did everything right, you will not see the place of the seam – it will be neat and invisible.
