A curtain in a country house solves a lot of problems. She is a great protector from hot sunlight, annoying mosquitoes and nasty drafts. If the windows face south or west, choose thicker curtain fabric.
There is usually dusty air in the countryside, which is why the curtains will get dirty more often than in the city. In order not to suffer from this problem, make curtains from non-staining fabrics, and the color palette should adhere to bed tones. This way they will fade less and always look fresh and clean.
But, if you want to install curtains on the veranda at your dacha, then curtains made of waterproof PVC fabric will be the best solution for a veranda or gazebo. Such curtains work as a complete barrier against cold, insects, wind and rain. You can even install heating devices in the room.
How to sew curtains for a dacha?
After choosing the fabric, we sew curtains for the dacha. But first, let’s see what we might need for this:
- fabric selected taking into account the interior design;
- fabric scissors;
- roulette;
- of course, needles and pins;
- and most importantly – a sewing machine.
- Let’s start sewing. The first stage is taking measurements. Apply the fabric to the window in the same way as you intend to subsequently arrange the finished curtains. In this way you can estimate the most attractive position of the pattern and the length and width of future curtains. If the window is too wide, you can temporarily secure the fabric with nails.
- Next we measure the width of the window. Then we calculate the width of the material – it should be twice as wide as the resulting footage. That is, if the window width is two meters, we will need four fabrics.
- Then comes the measurement of the length of the window opening. Depending on the desire, the curtain can be either shorter than the opening, or longer, or simply cover it. But no matter how you plan the final look of the product, when cutting, keep in mind that you will need fifteen to twenty centimeters for various seams, trims, fasteners, fasteners on the cornice, and so on.
- You can also cut the fabric to the desired size on the floor. If you want to make a pair for windows, then fold the resulting size in half and carefully cut it.
- The material for the curtains does not need to be overcast, just secure it with pins, bending it a centimeter. And there should be a free piece left at the top for further processing. Mark this area with pins. Subsequently, it will hide the braid or cornice on which the finished curtain will be attached.
- We are approaching the completion of the process – we sew all the bastings on a typewriter. Not yet, these are just seams along the edge of the blank, so that the curtain looks neat and beautiful
- We return to the material left at the top of the fabric. At the same time, attach the outer edge to the inside. You will get something like a double layer measuring eight centimeters. To prevent it from “running away”, attach the “belt” with needles or pins. And now you can skip it on a typewriter. Since this is still the front side, the seam will be noticeable, so it can be hidden with a beautiful, but unnoticeable matching ribbon.
Making curtain ties
Curtains will look beautiful not only flowing down, but also tied with beautiful ribbons. With the help of garters, tori can be given the most intricate shape.
