Stones in the country (54 photos): fencing elements, dry streams, painting and drawing, alpine slides and stone gardens
Every year, decorating plots is becoming more and more popular. And more and more often you can find such material as stone in the garden – new ideas for a summer residence are very often implemented using either a natural or artificial option. If you decide to transform your dacha, but don’t know how to do it, this review will tell you several interesting solutions that you can implement with your own hands without significant material costs.

Benefits of using stone
The use of this group of materials has a number of undeniable advantages, let’s consider the most important of them:
| Low cost of project implementation | Of course, you can purchase expensive materials to create this or that composition, but it is much easier to collect natural materials yourself, especially since outside the city there are usually no problems with this, just drive around the nearby fields – as a rule, you can find a lot of material along the edges |
| Ease of operation | Most objects that are made using stone are very easy to implement. You don’t need special tools and equipment; everything can be done on your own using available tools and gardening tools. |
| Variety of options | You can use both natural and artificial stones for your garden. The advantage of the first option is the richness of textures, sizes and shapes. The second option is good because it can be used to imitate any natural structure, and using paints and varnishes, you can give the elements any color |
| Excellent work result | Even such a simple option as finishing a flower bed around the perimeter transforms the area and gives it a new look. And if you create more complex options, you can get unusually attractive compositions that will make your dacha original and unique. |
Place stones along the paths, and they will make the area neater, in addition, they will act as limiters, since a curb stone for a summer house is not the best option
Some options for using stone in a summer cottage
As noted above, the material in question can be used for a wide variety of compositions; it is not possible to describe all the options, so we will look at what can be made from stones in the country with minimal effort and money (read also the article “Country style: features of choice and implementation in a specific interior”).
Fencing elements
Very often, when country houses are built from block containers on a pile foundation, the question arises of how to cover the space under the house; some people pour a concrete screed, some use brick, but laying stone is much more attractive from an aesthetic point of view. In addition, this finish will last for decades without any damage to strength or appearance.
But the stone can also be used for other purposes:
- Creating curbs along paths, driveways and rest areas. They can be planted on a sand-cement mortar, or they can simply be laid out around the perimeter, the main thing is that the shape of the fragments allows them to be fixed in a stationary position.
- Arranging flower beds and other compositions of this kind, it all depends on your imagination and the availability of material. The main thing is that all the elements are combined with each other and form an organic composition.
Flat stones are an excellent solution for decorating arrangements of flowers and shrubs
Dry streams
This design method came from Japan and became very popular among summer residents in our country.
The work is carried out as follows:
- First, the configuration of the future channel is thought out and a semicircular depression is dug.
- Next, the surface is leveled, after which you can begin laying out stones. As a rule, the largest elements are placed along the edges; they must be placed so that they stand rigidly and do not move from light touches.
- The bottom is laid out in smaller fragments or completely covered with river pebbles to give it an even greater resemblance to a real dry riverbed. Some developers use crushed stone painted in a certain color to make the composition look like a stream.
Advice! In order to prevent weeds from emerging from under the stones after finishing the work, it is best to cover the previously prepared and leveled base with geotextiles or any other durable, destruction-resistant material. This will greatly simplify future maintenance.
A dry stream will add natural charm to the site
Coloring and drawing
Another interesting option is to apply designs or give the stones a particular effect or shade.
There may be different options:
- Drawings on stone for the dacha are made in the form of various animals or other objects: mushrooms, berries and other compositions based on natural motifs.
Such fungi will decorate the flowerbed and become an original decoration.
- Painting the elements in different colors will help create a spectacular frame for the playground. You can use combined options, applying various designs in the form of animals, ladybugs, and so on.
You can paint your flower beds any way you want.
Important! When performing work, it is important, firstly, to clean the surface from dirt, and secondly, to use weather-resistant compounds so that the design remains bright for at least several years. Or you can even coat the stones with varnish, then they will be much more expressive and brighter.
Alpine coaster
A slide of stones in the country is one of the most popular options for creating compositions.
At the same time, the work is quite simple, and no special instructions are required to carry it out:
- First, the site is prepared and all the necessary materials are stocked. At the same time, to avoid the problem of how to break a stone at the dacha, it is better not to carry too large options, since their transportation and loading will require considerable effort.
- A mountain of fertile soil is poured in and a flower bed is formed, while the stones act as a frame and hold the shape of the composition.
Slides are great for decorating suburban areas
Stone gardens
To make a rock garden in the country, you need to spend more effort, since this often involves the need to cut elements, and you cannot do without a powerful electric line. As a last resort, an option can be to rent a diesel generator for a summer residence while the work is being carried out.
The configuration and size of the structure can be different, the main thing is to prepare the surface and cover it with special material, so as not to have to deal with removing weeds later.
