Glass painting with stained glass paints

Today, several different painting techniques are used. The simplest and most universal of them is to draw a contour and fill individual areas. The process can be divided into several stages:

  • first, the surface of the stack is degreased;
  • Next comes work with a contour, which prevents the colors from spreading and creates the effect of the traditional stained glass technique;
  • as soon as the outline is dry, you can fill in individual parts of the resulting mosaic with paints;
  • for painting on glass with stained glass paints, they use both special silicate mixtures, which require further baking, and acrylic (in the case of acrylic, you just need to wait for it to dry completely);
  • To give the image shine, a special varnish is applied over the paint layer.

Paints for stained glass painting are sold everywhere today, and along with them, templates with drawings. This is why many needlewomen offer lessons and master classes, because anyone can learn this type of painting.

If initially stained glass designs were intended only for windows, today their scope of application is much wider. Of course, even today a painted window can become a worthy addition to the interior and make it elite and unique, but designers have learned to use this technique in a much more original way.

Painting with stained glass paints – decorating the interior

So, you’ve decided to decorate your room with painted glass, but you haven’t decided yet what exactly it should look like. We offer some great ideas on how you can decorate your room and make it luxurious.

  1. Stained glass paintings are a good alternative to traditional canvases and panels. As a rule, they are installed on the wall, having previously installed lighting. This creates the illusion of a window, which visually expands the space. In addition, this is a good way to hide wall defects or any unevenness. As an image, you can choose large flowers, landscapes and landscapes; abstraction and geometry look good in modern interiors.
  2. In the hallway or bedroom you can install a large mirror with glass painting using stained glass paints. You can apply the design directly to the surface of the mirror or make a separate glass frame. Images of plants and birds, zodiac signs or simply geometric patterns will look very good here.
  3. By painting glass with stained glass paints, you can create real masterpieces from ordinary household items. For example, instead of a regular wall clock, use painting on glass and install the mechanism itself there. Interior hand-painted plates and glassware look no less original.
  4. The most daring and effective way to use painting in the design of a room is to make a glass partition. There are special glass structures with a wall thickness of up to 10 mm, which can be installed in rooms, bathrooms and even on balconies. This is a great way to divide space into zones without losing size. In the bathroom, this can be an alternative to traditional shower stalls or a partition in a combined bathroom.
  5. If you decide to use sliding partitions instead of a regular door, you can decorate them with paintings too. It is also worth trying this technique on glass doors of kitchen cabinets, wardrobes and even glass tables.
