This type of curtains consists of smooth multi-colored fabric sheets attached to an aluminum frame. They can be moved and extended, but cannot be rotated like blinds. The frame consists of several rows: from two to five.
The curtains are controlled using special ropes attached to an aluminum profile, or manually. A curtain rod with curtains can be attached not only to the frame, but also to a wall, doorway or niche.
Japanese curtains are easy not only to manage, but also to care for. The fabric is easy to remove from the frame for washing or cleaning, and easy to hang back. Depending on the type of fabric your curtain is made from, you can either hand wash it in soapy water or vacuum it.
You have the opportunity to rearrange and swap the fabrics of Japanese curtains the way you want, each time coming up with a new combination. Thus, not only the design of the curtains changes, but also the design of the room along with its illumination.
Japanese curtains in the interior
Despite such a simple device, they look unusual and stylish. In their historical homeland, Japan, they are used to decorate houses in a minimalist style, in spacious rooms with large windows.
Japanese curtains are sometimes installed as a partition inside a room, to zone space, and between rooms as a decorative element. Install Japanese panel curtains in the children’s room to separate the child’s sleeping area from the rest of the space, or in the hallway if you need to separate the wardrobe.
Japanese curtain design
To produce curtains in the Japanese style, various types of dense and light fabrics are used: linen, cotton, tulle, both single-color and decorated with various oriental-style patterns, most often with flowers. Often, when decorating an interior design with Japanese curtains, alternating two different shades is used: contrasting or from the same color scheme. The alternation of plain canvases together with canvases with a pattern, as well as plain ones with transparent canvases, looks beautiful.
The most suitable pattern for Japanese curtains is a large pattern with an oriental theme: birds, bamboo, hieroglyphs, large flowers, sakura. The choice of color and pattern for curtains directly depends on the overall color scheme of the room. Japanese curtains made of bamboo and other natural materials look unusual.
You can create your own unique design of Japanese curtains by coming up with your own design and applying it to the fabric using the thermal printing method.
For windows located on the sunny south side, choose light-proof fabrics like Blackout. For the north side – lighter transparent fabrics. On the cornice of Japanese curtains, you can simultaneously install ten different fabrics and change the window design as often as you wish.
Japanese curtains are easy to make at home:
- choose a natural fabric, a shade that matches the design of your room (nowadays there are many options for ready-made fabric with patterns on oriental themes in stores);
- at a hardware store, purchase a cornice and three to five string runners to move the panels one at a time or together;
- cut out strips of fabric from sixty centimeters wide to a meter wide, and in height – corresponding to the height of your window. Treat the bottom of the fabric with a drawstring, the side edges are not processed;
- secure the fabric to the cornice and runners.
When decorating the interior with Japanese curtains, remember that the Japanese style uses natural materials, there is no metal and a minimum of accessories is used. To convey the Japanese style as accurately as possible, choose discreet pastel shades, decorated with traditional Japanese designs.
