Beautiful window design involves not only a variety of curtain options, but also cornices on which drapes and curtains are attached. Among the many wooden, plastic, and aluminum models, the seemingly modest string cornice occupies a special place.
The basis of the string cornice design is a thin steel cable, similar to a guitar string. Such cornices are available for wall and ceiling. They are fastened using small brackets that resemble brackets, between which a cable is stretched. The length of the string in different models of cornices ranges from two to five meters. In this case, the string can be attached in one, two or even three rows. Curtains or curtains are attached to the string cornice using special clips or hooks.
Although the design of a string cornice for curtains is simple, if made in the color of bronze or brass, gold or patented silver, it can look very elegant. Classic straight curtains look best on a string cornice. A string cornice will look especially harmonious in a room decorated in a minimalist or high-tech style.
How to attach a string cornice?
First, you should mark on the wall or ceiling the place where the string cornice and the mounting points for the brackets will be located. Using a hammer drill, drill holes for the brackets and secure them with dowels. Pull a string through the hole in the fastening and bring it to the opposite side of the cornice. Now, having passed the string through the groove, pull it in the opposite direction and secure it. Rotate the bolt to the desired string tension. In the future, if your curtain sag, you can use this bolt to increase the string tension. The remainder of the string can be cut off or carefully hidden. After making sure that the string has sufficient tension, you can hang the curtains.
The string cornice can be used not only for window decoration. It is very convenient to use a string curtain rod to hang a curtain for a bath or shower. Such a lightweight design will, however, be reliable and easy to use.
If you want to emphasize the beauty and elegance of the fabric on your curtains, hang them on a modest and inconspicuous string cornice. Silk curtains, curtains made of taffeta or organza look great on string cornices. It can be used not only in rooms, but also for decorating loggias, balconies, and terraces. Installed in a low room, a string cornice visually raises the ceiling, making the room more spacious.
