When you have a question about the construction of a fence around the site, doubts naturally arise regarding the choice of not only the fence itself, but also the pillars, as its foundations. And there is something to choose from: it can be wooden, metal, brick or concrete pillars for the fence.
But when you begin to think about these options, you understand that the tree is short -lived, the metal will suffer from rust over time, the brick will cost a lot. And the most optimal is the choice of concrete pillars for the fence, especially since they can be done independently and save on expensive delivery and unloading.
Advantages and disadvantages of concrete pillars
But before you finally decide on such a serious business as the construction of a fence, you still need to be confident in the correct choice. To do this, it would be nice to know not only about the positive side of the issue, but also some of the negative points. Let’s start with the good:
- The concrete structure is durable and durable, especially in comparison with wooden analogues;
- There are a lot of options for decorative decoration of concrete pillars (plaster, paint, plastic or stone);
- It is not difficult to mount concrete supports, for this you do not need either expensive equipment, or special materials, or the help of specialists;
- Concrete columns can have a variety of shapes – round, square, semicircular, rectangular or trapezoidal.
And a little about the shortcomings:
- Without proper preparation of the foundation for the fence over time, the structure can be deformed due to shrinkage, with the most sad outcome, the fence can even collapse completely;
- In the production of concrete pillars from poor -quality materials, it is impossible to guarantee the durability and reliability of the entire structure.
Decorative concrete pillars for fence
If you are not impressed by straight columns, you can order concrete pillars “Cubes” for your fence. They are beautiful designs with an ornamented pattern from all four sides.
They have reinforcing rods for strengthening, as well as a seat for a basement panel and two through holes for plates, to which the sections of the fence (spans) are further attached.
In addition to these decorative columns, there are many types of finished products with a variety of textured surface: under stone, brick, wood, with various patterns. After installation, you can paint them in any color.
Also, prefabricated concrete pillars for the fence gained great popularity. They look great with any filling – metal wooden, concrete. Yes, and it is very simple to mount set blocks, even one person can overcome it.
Some subtleties of installing concrete pillars for the fence
Before installing a wooden or any other fence on concrete poles, you need to mount the supports in the ground, and only after that proceed to install the sections between them.
First of all, the pit is dug up, its diameter should accurately correspond to the dimensions of the pillar. You can dig it with a special drill. The depth of the pit should not be less than a meter, otherwise it will poorly affect the strength of the fence.
It is better to engage in the installation of concrete supports, ready or homemade, it is better in warm and dry weather, since precipitation will lead to a faster destruction of the structure due to excess moisture in the solution, and the heat will negatively affect the process of solidifying pillars and the foundation.
If you plan to make a capital fence, say, from corrugated board, the distance between the pillars is best made at least 3 meters. The corner poles should be slightly thicker than the rest, since they carry a large load.
The mixture for pouring tables and basement should be of high quality: you need to choose a suitable brand of cement, while it is equally important to choose the right proportions of sand and crushed stone.
