Did you find the most unpleasant worms in a package with cereal or dried fruits? And lumps with web in flour? If so, then you are familiar with one of the worst enemies of any mistress – a food moth. The food moth is one of the worst enemies of any housewife to warn her appearance in the kitchen, but possible. It is more difficult to destroy, but also real (although sometimes it seems that all measures are useless and you will never succeed in getting rid of adversity). I propose to exchange experience of struggle and share successful ways to protect your food supplies. What kind of moth is it and where it comes from is a drinking moth from is not a biological species, but rather a everyday concept that combines different types of moths, the larvae of which feed on foods (unlike, for example, from a plastic moth, which is indifferent to our food). From a practical point of view, it doesn’t matter to me with you, I visited the kitchen of a nut moth, barn, flour, Indian or any other-this will not affect the strategy and tactics of it. Therefore, we will not delve into issues of entomology. I believe that it is more important for us to understand where these insects come from how they appear in our house. Most often, baking moth larvae fall into the house along with infected products, alas, most often we bring them to the kitchen – along with products purchased in the store. Eggs of food moths have microscopic dimensions, it is difficult to notice them. And in some products and a larva you will not immediately find – for example, I bought walnuts in the store like that last month: it seems to be complicated, and inside … Theoretically, there is also the possibility that an adult insect will fly into the house, for example, through an open window, so antimoscate nets will not be superfluous. But still the main path of spreading the pest is through infected foods. How to warn the appearance of moths in the kitchen, buy all the grocery (flour, cereals, pasta, sugar, tea, coffee), dried fruits, nuts only in trusted stores. And better – in the factory packing. Secondly, process products at the slightest suspicion of infection without waiting for serious problems. Two methods are effective: freezing (in the freezer or in winter – on the balcony) and pumping (in the oven, you can in a microwave). Products, clearly damaged by larvae of moths, are better to throw away immediately. The insects themselves are harmful, but their larvae are thirdly, if possible to avoid large grocery reserves. The longer cereals, flour, dried fruits are stored (especially in a warm room with high humidity – such conditions are very fond of food mole), the higher the likelihood of once to find insects in them. Fourth, to store products from the “risk group” where the mole will not get. You can use tightly closing glass jars or dense cloth bags that are sustained in a strong salt solution; You can keep stocks on the balcony (in winter) or in the refrigerator (in summer). If the product has already been infected, it will not save and a closed bank if the product has already been infected, a hermetically sealed bank will not save it, of course. Therefore, before pouring cereals or flour into a kitchen container, check if there are suspicious lumps, web, jerks, and the like signs of the vigor’s life. But if, nevertheless, the trouble happened, the correct container, at least, will protect from the spread of moths and infection of other products. What to do if the mol has already appeared first of all – to arrange a general cleaning in the kitchen. We’ll have to sort out all the reserves: if eggs or larvae remain somewhere, soon everything will happen again. For reliability, it is better to disinfect products (put in frost or hold in the oven), and then be sure to remove in a hermetically closing container. All cabinets, shelves, boxes in the kitchen need to be sophisticated and thoroughly washed with a solution of vinegar or laundry soap. Remember that the pest eggs are tiny and can remain in hard -to -reach places – in the corners, at the joints of furniture, furniture loops, etc. Careful cleaning is the key to success in the fight against moth. You can treat the room with special aerosol insecticides from food moths, but I personally do not like this method: it seems not to spray chemicals where we eat and store products. But this opinion is purely subjective – your decision may be different. Choose funds to combat moths in our catalog, representing the goods of large garden online stores. Choose funds from moths. In any case, chemical means of combating food moths exist, and these are not only aerosols, but also various insecticidal traps, as well as repellents (in the form of plates, fluids for fumigator or tablets). The main thing when using them is to strictly observe the safety precautions prescribed by the manufacturer. Well, one more point needs to be taken into account: against the eggs of moths, these means are ineffective – they act on larvae and (or) adults. So replacing cleaning with processing will not work. Folk remedies for food prayer products are used mainly to repel the pest, and not to destroy it. So, if you found a moth, as they say, “with red -handed”, it is already pointless to wave the twigs of lavender, but you can put them in advance in the kitchen for prevention. In any case, there will definitely be no harm. If you found the food moth “with red -handed”, folk remedies will no longer help, use them until the pest appeared the most popular folk remedies from food moths
- Fragrant herbs
Bags with wormwood, lavender, tansy, other herbs with an insecticidal effect are hung or laid out in the kitchen, in places of the possible appearance of moths. They scare away adults, against larvae are ineffective.
- Orange and lemon zest
The action is the same as the herbs. You can use both fresh and dried peel of citrus fruits (fresh is more effective, but it is worth making sure that it dries, and not moldy somewhere in the locker).
- Essential oils
In fact, these are active substances all the same plants, act similarly – they scare away butterflies. It is easier to use oils-drip a little bit on cotton pads and lay them out in the kitchen. The main thing is not to forget to update regularly.
- Spices and spices
The effect, again, is based on the scaring the properties of aromas. A bay leaf, rosemary, cloves, fragrant pepper are used against moths. True, the effectiveness of this method, according to reviews, is low: sometimes pests even multiply in spices, and their aromas do not confuse them at all. If the product has already been infected, no folk remedies will help, and, of course, we need to understand: if we brought infected products from the store and did not take safety measures (did not check, did not disinfect with suspicion of infection and did not put in hermetic tank) – no folk remedies will protect our kitchen from food moths. The approach should be complex. Did you happen to face food? How did they fight, with what means they won?
