10 trends from the 1980s, which are now in fashion

Increased demand for comfort, fatigue from “cold” minimalism, nostalgia for more simple and understandable times return the trends of the 1980s to the modern interior. But we are not talking about a bulky Finnish wall, murals with birches or tons of crystal in a sideboard. We list ten in demand elements of the interior fashion of the 80s.

Flower print

Having originated during the time of Maria Antoinette, a flower print received a second wind in the hippie culture in the 70s and smoothly migrated to the interiors of the 80s. He was full of upholstery, on wallpaper, textiles and dishes. Bold patterns with a color and texture background provided visual interest and depth of the rooms, filled them with warmth, a positive atmosphere and comfort.

For a modern interpretation of the trend, it is worth choosing prints with large colors, leaves, images of birds. It is best to focus on a natural, pastel or exotic color scheme. If in the 80s a room was designed in floral motifs, today one accent wall is enough.

Pastel palette

After the plant riot of hippies and the shine of the disco of the 70s, color calm occurred in the interiors. The palette of the 80s was led by soft shades of pink, blue, sand and muffled green. They were often located in the form of geometric figures and patterns, accompanied by bold minimalist neon accents and abstract art.

Combinations of pastel flowers are loved by designers today. Puddy pink, pale blue, peach, mint are used as both background and accent. They are easily mixed with each other and with basic colors (white, gray and black).

Those who have stayed in hotels built in the 1980s are probably familiar with the key materials for the finish of that time-glass blocks. They replaced windows and showers, zoned the rooms, maintaining sound insulation, natural light and confidentiality.

Lucite accents

Furniture and accessories from transparent acrylic resin became a hit of the 80s. This is a clear stroke of the then-woken now-popular style of Ar-Deco. For practicality, strength and aesthetics, Lucite dining chairs, stools and coffee tables were highly appreciated.

Today, transparent items from Lucite (name from the Lucite brand) can be found in many modern interiors. They visually retain the space, are easily combined with natural and artificial materials.

Deep sofas

They declared themselves in the 80s. Their low deep seat and soft back looked like two magnificent Muffin. In the last decade, with an increased need for comfort and struggle with stress, interest in them has returned. Memphis style

Milan architect Ettore Sotsasass, together with his colleagues in the workshop, Michele de Lucci and Andrea Brandzi in 1980, organized the Memphis group. Inspired by pop art and colorful abstractions, they formed a new design style. In the center of its attention – multi -colored geometric shapes, bold combinations of “Color Block”, wavy lines and minimum conventions.

In interiors 2022-23, the memphis is revived in a more restrained format: bright shades are muffled, strict figures are smoothed out and rounded. But the spectacular, attractive eyes, accessories, leading the principle of the game and experiment remains unchanged.

Colorful carpets

In Soviet times, including the 80s, they were covered with living rooms and hung on the walls. A woolen carpet with a soft dense pile and a colorful pattern was considered a sign of prosperity and not only served as decorating the room, but also insulated the walls, retained wallpaper, provided sound insulation.

The wall -mounted motley carpet found itself in interior styles in demand today: eclecticism, boho, scandium, retro, ethnic. Bright fluffy handmade canvases will serve as an original accent, soften smooth minimalistic surfaces, add a touch of playfulness, warmth and comfort.

Tropical motifs

The next interior hit of the 1980s is the topic of tropics: on the wallpaper, textiles and tiles, leaves and flowers flaunted, and in the corners of the rooms-tubs with spreading palm trees, lemons or ficuses. Instead of living plants, artificial ones were used, and green acted the role of a new black.

Furniture from a rattan
