Wallpaper for a small room

by decoredhome.com

How unlucky are the owners of small Khrushchev-era apartment buildings, it seems they have living space, but it’s still cramped. One room sometimes serves as both a guest room and a bedroom, and sometimes even a hall (if the apartment is made in the form of a studio). Therefore, people are often interested in the question of increasing the space of a small room. In such a situation, wallpaper and some decorative elements (mirrors, indoor plants) help out. It’s quite easy to choose wallpaper for a small room – you need to take into account a number of conditions that affect the spatial perception of the apartment. These include: the color and pattern of wallpaper, a combination of several types of wallpaper and other nuances.

How to choose the right wallpaper for a small room?

First you need to choose the color of wallpaper for a small room. Use only light colors and do not experiment with large patterns. Light colors make a room appear brighter, making it appear wider and larger. If the ceiling will also be covered with wallpaper, then choose wallpaper of a lighter color than on the walls. This technique stretches out the room and makes it a little larger.

There are several basic rules for designing a small room with wallpaper, depending on the type of room:

  1. Wallpaper for low ceilings. Opt for light-colored wallpaper with a vertical pattern, such as vertical stripes. It is better not to use a wide border, because it can make the room even lower. If the ceilings are high, then you need to paste the wallpaper 15-20 cm away from the edge of the ceiling. This will jinx the imbalance and the room will look proportional.
  2. Wallpaper for a small dark room. For this case, wallpaper with a warm yellow tint is suitable. You can also cover a dimly lit wall with wallpaper that is slightly lighter than the general background. Use the same principle in a square room. The light side will “stretch” the room, giving it a rectangular shape.
  3. Combining wallpaper in a small room. Thanks to this design trick, you can highlight functional zones in a small room, separating the relaxation area from the work area and meeting with friends. Cover one or two walls with a different type of wallpaper, but remember that it should have something in common with the “main” wallpaper. It can be a single texture, pattern and repeating shade (green and light green, beige and yellow). Such wallpapers are often sold as a set. Then the buyer does not have to worry about choosing “similar” wallpaper. In addition to wallpaper, you can install symbolic partitions in the room, which can be either furniture or plasterboard structures.
