Stucco on the ceiling

by decoredhome.com

Decorating the ceiling and walls in this way makes the room more elegant and adds a touch of luxury. A classic ceiling with stucco is considered to be an attribute of luxury and is not found very often in modern design. But stucco itself is used quite actively, and modern materials significantly simplify the process of its installation and further operation.

Ceiling stucco: a modern approach to timeless classics

Modern materials make it possible to simplify the installation process and select a variety of shapes and designs of stucco molding. As for the cost, it is significantly lower than the cost of classic gypsum structures. Let’s look at what new materials manufacturers use in manufacturing:

  • foamed polystyrene (the material has proven itself well due to its low cost and ease of installation, but at the same time there is no clarity of the pattern, and the strength is not the highest);
  • foamed polyurethane (this option is closest to real gypsum stucco in terms of external characteristics, is moisture resistant and has high strength);
  • fiberglass and glass composite are also used.

How to glue stucco to the ceiling?

To fix modern decorative elements for the ceiling, use PVA glue, liquid nails or dowels. Most often, preference is given to liquid nails, since they are universal and not demanding on the surfaces to be glued.

If we are talking about stucco molding made of polyurethane or polystyrene foam, then there are special adhesive solutions for them, which are offered by stucco molding manufacturers.

The installation process is simple. First of all, using diagonals, find the center of the ceiling and start working from this point. The mounting location of all parts is marked on the plan. Then the adhesive is applied and all elements of the composition are installed one by one. At the same time, immediately wipe off any remaining glue. At the end everything needs to be puttied and painted.

Ceiling stucco design

Now let’s dwell a little on the modern use of stucco molding from different materials.

  1. A stretch ceiling with stucco is a striking example of a combination of modern technologies and a classic approach to ceiling decor. As a rule, center elements for chandeliers and perimeter moldings are used for these purposes. A stretch ceiling with stucco around the perimeter looks quite impressive and does not violate the overall design idea, while you can hide an LED strip under it and thereby create a unique design.

  3. Stucco foam for the ceiling is an excellent compromise between price and quality. If you decide to do the renovation yourself, then this is the ideal solution. But it is worth remembering that you will have to buy all decorative elements with a reserve, since they are quite fragile. Otherwise, this is a good choice for independent room decor.

  5. Classic plaster stucco molding is used today for design ideas. The fact is that gypsum itself is relatively cheap. The entire bulk of the costs will go to creating the structure, since only highly qualified professionals should make and glue stucco onto the ceiling.
