Recently, people are increasingly abandoning wooden windows because they are very difficult to care for, they are short-lived and require annual painting. But for several years now, an option has appeared on the market for those who prefer natural materials in home decoration, but do not want to spend too much time caring for them. These are wood-aluminum windows. Their peculiarity is that on the outside the tree is protected by aluminum linings from the effects of temperature and atmospheric factors.
Characteristics of wood-aluminum windows
In today’s harsh climate, it is very important that windows do not rot from rain and are not subject to deformation from frost and hail. But many people do not want to give up wood, since it is the most environmentally friendly material. It has high sound-proofing and heat-insulating properties. Wood is easy to process and fits into any interior. It is warm and pleasant to the touch and creates a feeling of comfort. But the disadvantage of this material is that it deforms and deteriorates due to moisture, frost and sunlight. Therefore, aluminum overlays are used to protect the wood from the outside. This metal is very unpretentious and easy to use. It is lightweight and weather resistant. These overlays can be painted so that they can harmonize with any facade. Aluminum is a very convenient material also because it does not lose its properties for several decades, even when exposed to aggressive weather factors. It can be easily decorated, which allows you to decorate any facade with such windows made of wood and aluminum. A special powder coating that does not electrify allows the pads to remain clean for a long time.
The base is made of natural hard wood: larch, oak or pine. The outside of the beam is covered with aluminum plates, which are secured with special plastic clips. This helps prevent the wood from warping. To prevent the frame from freezing under the aluminum and condensation from accumulating on it during frosts, special polyamide gaskets are used.
What types of wood-aluminum windows are there?
There are many varieties of such windows. They differ in the method of installation, shape, features of fittings and the mechanism for opening the sashes. Depending on how the aluminum trim is mounted, windows come in three types:
- the finished wooden frame is coated on the outside with aluminum, which protects the wood;
- A wooden frame is placed on the finished aluminum base from the inside. Such windows are more durable and strong;
- A polyamide gasket is used between wood and aluminum, which allows the wooden frame to be preserved longer without damage. Such windows have better thermal insulation properties.
They also make wood-aluminum windows with double-glazed windows, single-leaf and double-leaf. They can be made trapezoidal and arched, in different colors and designs. Windows come with pivoting and tilt-and-turn sashes, equipped with hidden fittings. Finnish wood-aluminum windows are especially common now. They are distinguished by high quality, durability and a wide variety of designs. This type of window consists of two sashes, with blinds or shutters often installed between them.
Advantages of wood-aluminum windows
- they are environmentally friendly, as they are made from natural materials;
- these windows have higher sound and heat insulation properties compared to conventional ones;
- they are durable and very easy to use;
- The convenient design allows you to mount a window of any shape and size, and, if necessary, quickly change the double-glazed window.
