Not every one of us is able to entrust the choice of curtains for a room to a professional designer who is able to take into account all the slightest nuances. Therefore, many do this exciting work on their own. How to choose the right curtains is not an easy task. Often people do not take into account the style of the interior, and mistakenly buy the wrong color of material, its texture and size. Here we will try to consider the questions that most often baffle our housewives.
How to choose the color of curtains?
- Green color has many shades, but always brings natural freshness and tranquility. Olive curtains are a good choice for a bright, spacious room, so they are most often used in the kitchen, large living room or office. They are able to bring coolness and natural freshness to the room. But it has been noted that olive color “absorbs light”, and it is better not to use them in dark apartments.
- Pistachio curtains, which also remind us of nature, have a similar effect. They go well with warm colors – pink, peach, red or yellow. But white will give the overall picture severity and freshness.
- Very rarely, burgundy curtains are made of light material; most often they are made of velvet, which is more appropriate in the bedroom. Such products decorated with gold or white inserts look beautiful.
- Wenge, brown and chocolate colors are very stylish, they are equally suitable for both classic and modern interiors. These colors are dark, and therefore the rest of the furnishings should be in lighter and softer colors (milky, pastel and others).
- Many people like lilac curtains, which carry a certain mystery and romance. This material is perfect for the room of a young girl in love. If light lilac tones are traditionally considered feminine, then men can choose curtains of lilac or eggplant color.
- How to choose purple curtains for the interior, because many people also love this rich color? They look quite good in light or even bright environments when you need to create a formal atmosphere. Suitable for a study or living room, in which the rest of the interior is done in cream, white, or blue. Yellow and light green tones also harmonize well with purple curtains.
- Blue curtains create the effect of airiness and sea freshness. They are suitable for a child’s room, although they will look good in the kitchen or bedroom of an adult with a romantic nature.
- The color peach is certainly pleasing to the eye, it is warm, inviting and looks good in the bedroom. This fruity shade is pleasing to the eye and almost universal. It goes well with many cool and warm colors.
- Pink curtains are the best choice for the bedroom of a couple in love or a young girl. People have long associated this color with love and tenderness.
- For those who prefer a modern interior, we can recommend white curtains. They always look elegant and solemn, and besides, such curtains will brighten the darkest room.
- If you like red curtains, then decorate the rest of the decor in light, warm colors. This option will appeal to gentle young ladies and those people who love oriental style, but they are not suitable for a nursery.
- I don’t often use pure black curtains, although they look elegant. In the bedroom, such curtains will look gloomy; they are most suitable for a stylish modern living room, a black and white kitchen or a room made in a retro style. (Photo 12)

How to choose the size of curtains?
Very often people save on material and do not take into account decorative folds, measuring only the length of the curtains. Subsequently, this leads to the fact that their windows look poor and dull. Therefore, the question of how to choose the width of the curtains is quite important. If you are using fabric loops or curtain tape, then multiply your curtain rod width by one and a half or two. But pencil folds or puffs require a larger size; here you need to multiply by a factor of at least 2.5.
Many people are tormented by the question of what designers choose curtains for. Some take into account the color of the walls, others – the upholstery of the furniture. If you are used to saving, then choose the second option. People change their wallpaper more often than their furniture! You can take material of a neutral shade (beige, cream, sand), they almost never go out of fashion. To tie the curtains into the rest of the decor, use a matching lambrequin or other decorative drapery.
