Floor wooden plinth

by decoredhome.com

The last stage of finishing work in the apartment is the installation of the baseboard. It can be matched to the color of the walls or floor, or act as a contrasting element in the interior. Depending on which plinth you choose, the visual perception of the room may change. So, a product made of plastic is more suitable for a floor covered with carpet, linoleum or jute, panels made of plastic and MDF are suitable, and for parquet, solid boards or laminate – panels made of solid wood. The advantage of the latter option over the first is obvious – a wooden floor plinth looks more expensive and presentable, therefore it is organically combined with luxury floor coverings. In addition, a wooden product has a number of important advantages:

  • naturalness and environmental friendliness;
  • ease of installation and dismantling;
  • durability;
  • the presence of a special channel for placing cables;
  • high strength.

Disadvantages include increased sensitivity to humidity, which imposes restrictions on the rooms in which it can be used. It is advisable to exclude the kitchen, bathroom and toilet.

Which model should you choose?

High-quality plinths are made exclusively from solid wood. The most common and affordable material is pine. The cost of a pine baseboard is 1.5-3 USD. per linear meter. The price depends on the complexity of the panel shape and the number of “joined” elements.

More expensive species for slats are oak and linden. The minimum cost of linden will be 2.5 USD, but for oak 5-8 USD. Oak plinth is considered elite and is used when finishing elite piece parquet.

Maple, pear, birch, cherry, alder, walnut, beech and other types of wood are used a little less frequently. Exotic lovers will appreciate products from acacia, doucia, merbau and mahogany.

The assortment also includes a separate type of plinth, which is also considered wooden, but is not made of solid wood. Its base is made of spruce, and the front part is covered with elite wood: bamboo, walnut, oak. The cost of veneered products depends on the composition of the veneer and ranges from 4-6 USD.

Buying Tips

When purchasing solid baseboards, pay attention to the type of wood and other characteristics of the product. Sometimes you can find a plank made of acacia or pine for a very low price – 15-20 cents per linear meter. This cost is explained by the fact that the plinth is not made of solid wood, but is glued together from several longitudinal parts. Sometimes the reason may be a large number of knots, uneven color or other defects.

If you need the color of the flooring to perfectly match the color of the wooden baseboard, then place an order from one company. This way you can be sure that the shade will be chosen perfectly.

Model range

The range of construction companies includes the following types of skirting boards:

  1. Floor wide wooden skirting boards. Designed for finishing floors in classic interiors. They provide a special “pocket” for wiring and cables. Due to the high consumption of material, they are quite expensive, so they are often made to personal order.
  2. Curved models. Used very rarely, mainly in special projects. This plinth is made exclusively by hand, so its cost can be 30-40 USD. per meter
  3. Classic plinth. A strict narrow strip that does not have rich decor and carved elements. A budget option that will suit any interior.

As you can see, the range of skirting boards is very wide. You just need to decide on the color and price range.
