by decoredhome.com

Today in the construction market you can find many options for flooring, each of which covers a specific category of consumers. Thus, connoisseurs of natural materials use laminate and parquet boards, lovers of practicality and convenience use tiles and linoleum, and special gourmets use self-leveling mixtures. However, not everyone knows that there is vinyl flooring that combines durability, low cost and stylish appearance. What qualities does this material have and what are the features of its operation?

Definition of “vinyl flooring”

First you need to understand the concepts. Vinyl flooring is made from vinyl thinned with quartz/ceramic chips and aluminum oxide. The layer with the texture pattern is located under a transparent layer of polymer, so the image does not erase or fade. Some types of coating are equipped with a self-adhesive base, which makes laying the floor much easier.

Properties

Vinyl coating has many advantages that make it popular in the finishing materials segment. Here we can highlight:

  • a wide range of different textures and colors;
  • ease of operation;
  • low cost ($10-40 per 1 sq.m.);
  • strength and high wear resistance;
  • maintainability;
  • waterproof.

However, along with the listed advantages, there are also a number of disadvantages, namely:

  • during the first time after installation, the release of volatile chemicals is observed;
  • vinyl is not biodegradable;
  • contact with rubber may leave discolored spots on the floor;
  • combustion toxicity.

Thus, vinyl flooring is not suitable for the kitchen and children’s room. The remaining rooms can be decorated with it, provided that all installation nuances are observed.
