Many people refuse to buy linoleum due to the fact that if a visible defect appears, it needs to be completely replaced or the damage must be masked with furniture. Manufacturers took this nuance into account and released PVC floor tiles, the composition of which is completely identical to rolled linoleum. The only difference is that vinyl tiles are cut into square or rectangular pieces, making them much easier to install on the floor. In case of damage, the damaged fragment can be removed and a new module installed in its place.
Tile structure
Modular flooring made of polyvinyl chloride consists of four layers, each of which is responsible for a separate function:
- Base (stability and strength of the material);
- Fiberglass (stabilizes the dimensions of the product, ensures wrinkle-resistant tiles);
- Decorative layer (gives the product a characteristic color or texture);
- Protective polyurethane layer (provides anti-slip properties, protects against scratches).
On the sides of the tiles there are locks such as dovetail, nails, or T-shaped. Some products also have a self-adhesive backing, which makes installation much easier.
Installation recommendations
PVC tiles are floor coverings that can be laid on different surfaces, be it concrete, tile floors or wooden floors. Before installation, thoroughly wash and degrease the floor, and, if necessary, vacuum it. When the preparatory work is completed, you can begin installation. First you need to glue the “beacon tiles” that will determine the center of the floor. The center line can run parallel to the side wall or be calculated using a calculative method. The rest of the tiles should be laid in accordance with the axis. Each laid row must be rolled with a rubber roller and wiped with a rubber sponge. Please note that the floor can be washed only after 24 hours, and the furniture can be brought in after 48 hours. To protect the floor covering from being crushed, stick felt pads on the furniture legs.
Where can it be used?
PVC floor tiles are ideal for kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. Due to high traffic, the floors in these rooms are subject to heavy loads, and vinyl tiles are very resistant to physical wear and tear. In addition, it can be used in gyms, industrial premises and cafes.
