The Christmas tree is an indispensable attribute of the New Year. But it is not always possible (or desire) to install a large and real forest beauty. In this case, all kinds of miniature decorative Christmas trees – purchased or made with your own hands – come to the rescue. Today we will make a Christmas tree out of tinsel. But there can never be too many Christmas trees! Moreover, it is very easy to make. We will need:
- thin tinsel on wire (sold at the Fix Price store, like most of the other materials used for this craft);
- small Christmas tree decorations – beads, miniature balls, etc.;
- a piece of polystyrene foam as the basis of the composition;
- wooden skewer (or just a sharpened wooden stick) – 1 pc.
Tools and materials for work Tools:
- scissors;
- hot glue gun;
- stationery knife.
Step 1: make the base Using a stationery knife, cut out a stand of the desired shape and size from foam. We stick a wooden skewer into it. The basis of the future craft Make sure that the base is sufficiently stable. If you make the stand too small, the finished product may fall from the slightest draft. Step 2: growing branches Take a piece of tinsel and secure it to the base rod with a couple of turns. This tinsel is based on a thin flexible wire, so no additional fastenings are required, but if you wish, you can fix each tier with glue. We grow future branches We arrange the free ends of future branches so that the “crown” is evenly fluffy. I simply rotated the workpiece around its axis a little before securing each next fragment. Yes, one more nuance: I chose tinsel in two different shades of green – I think this will make the future Christmas tree more “alive” and natural. Grow the Christmas tree to the desired height In this simple way, alternating shades, we grow the Christmas tree to the desired height (or as long as the height of the base rod allows). Step 3: forming the crown So far our Christmas tree has turned out shapeless and “shaggy”. We need to give it the usual conical shape. Ordinary scissors will help us with this: sequentially, starting from the bottom tier, we shorten the blank branches. The higher, the shorter they should be. Anyone who has ever seen a real Christmas tree will cope with the task without difficulty. Forming the crown of the Christmas tree To make the crown uniform, move sequentially from bottom to top, gradually turning the workpiece around its axis. But it’s hardly worth striving for absolute symmetry – trees in nature are not ideal either. To make the crown, cut off the remaining part of the base rod, leaving 1-1.5 cm (depending on the size of the tree) and tightly wrap the remaining “tail” with a piece of tinsel. Top of the Christmas tree If you wish, you can stop here: perhaps the tree turned out to be a little avant-garde, but some people also like this style. And we will move on… Step 4: add twigs, make the tree fluffy. Here the trimmings that remain after the formation of the crown will come into play. In the same way as we wrapped tinsel around the base rod, we will fasten small trimmings on long branches (does everyone remember spruce paws?) Spruce paws I used silver tinsel here and there – it’s winter, there’s snow… This work may seem too labor-intensive. Don’t be scared! In fact, with some skill you can get the job done very quickly. Tell me – even longer! In addition, it is very exciting: when you see how the workpiece is transformed, the whole process is perceived as a little hand-made magic… But it’s so nice to feel like a sorceress! This is how the Christmas tree grew. This is what I got as a result… And at this stage it’s also quite possible to stop: the Christmas tree turns out to be self-sufficient. The tinsel shines, the silver inclusions refresh, enliven the overall picture… Beauty! Or you can take the next step. Step 5: decorate the Christmas tree Indeed, what would a Christmas tree be without decorations! We’ll glue a star to the top of our head: We’ll glue a star to the top of our head. We’ll put “gifts” under the tree: We’ll put gifts under the tree.
