In a modern interior, cornices serve not only to support curtains, but also perform some decorative functions. Designers love to use massive round cornices, as well as designs with elements of artistic forging or lighting. However, if the design is thought out in such a way that the fabric itself becomes the main decoration of the interior, then it is better to choose a classic string cornice. Yes, it looks modest and minimalistic, but your curtains against its background will look even more elegant.
Cornice design
The universal string curtain rod kit includes metal brackets, thin strings and holders. Brackets can have an unusual shape and design, for example, in the shape of a flower bud, geometric figure or arrow. If you wish, you can choose an ordinary bracket, the only decoration of which will be a chrome coating.
The strings that come with the cornice are quite strong, but despite this, it is better to hang curtains made of light fabrics (tulle or organza) on them. Massive curtains can lead to sagging of the panel and deformation of the string. If you plan to use curtains made of brocade or jacquard, then aluminum or wooden structures are more suitable for you.
Now regarding the curtain clips. In the case of a string cornice, it is better to choose lightweight, inconspicuous clips made of plastic or metal. They will look harmonious and will not burden the structure with strings.
How to install string curtain rods?
First, the place where the cornice will be located is determined, then, by attaching the fasteners to the ceiling, marks are made for the holes for the screws. The holes are drilled, plastic dowels are hammered into them and the fasteners are screwed. After this, you need to insert the string and clamp it using the tension device located on the mount. Having done this, you need to check the quality of the tension of the strings. If they do not sag, then you can safely hang curtains.
Where are they used?
This design is not used on complexly shaped windows (oval or arched; curved bay window cornices are more suitable for this) and is rarely used to create complex multi-layer fabric compositions inside a room. But string cornices are ideal for decorative niches and kitchen windows. Thanks to them, it is possible to create an unusual “floating” effect of the curtains under the ceiling and focus attention on the texture and color of the fabric. Such cornices are often used in high-tech, minimalism and modern styles.
