Color solutions in a narrow hallway

If the area of the room is modest, it is especially important to pay separate attention to the hallway. Now in almost all apartments the corridor and the hallway is a single space, so in the article we will not share them.

Light tones for visual expansion of space

The choice of color for the hallway depends on the general concept of the apartment. So that there is no sensation of narrowing already a small area, the ceiling and walls are better to make light. The floor in a narrow hallway can be slightly darker than the walls, but not too dark.

Using two colors, you can create an additional vertical that visually lifts the ceiling. Here they chose milk and brown, the vertical was spent on the door of hidden installation.

Proper use of dark colors

With a dark color, the room may seem smaller. Therefore, in narrow halls, such shades are used in tandem with large mirrors and/or backlight – visual increased space.

The walls in this hallway are dark olive. The ceiling is white, the floor in the entrance area is black. Added a large mirror in the frame in the color of the walls.

Finishing options

Floor

The corridor is a passing area, so there is more dust in it than in the rest of the apartment. The most practical solution for the floor is porcelain stoneware. This material is wear -resistant, easily washed and not afraid of water. This is especially true in the cold season, when a wet shoes from rain or snow settle in the hallway on an ongoing basis.

Crama borderline is cold, so it is better to make a warm floor under it. It will be pleasant to walk on it and wet shoes will dry faster.

There are also risks that moisture may fall into the seams between the tiles. Therefore, it is better to use epoxy grout, which makes them more dense and completely moisture resistant. It costs more than usual.

Quartz-vinyl is a material that includes vinyl, quartz and plastic, outwardly it looks like a laminate. Unlike porcelain tiles, quartz vinyl takes the ambient temperature. He is warm to the touch and you can walk on it without slippers. He is also unpretentious in departure due to lack of seams.

He can look different.

In this hallway in the entrance area, we used large-format porcelain tiles, in the zone behind it-a quartz-vinyl laminate under a parquet Christmas tree.

Alternatively, you can use standard 60×60 porcelain border – many do it. And, for example, 80×80 or other sizes – this is not so beaten. In this hallway they did this, chose 80×80.

Walls

To wall decoration, the same requirements as to the floor: wear resistance and practicality. To finish, washable paint, decorative plaster, micro -chamber, porcelain tiles are suitable – everything that can be washed.

You need to build from the budget. The most expensive option is a micro -cement. The most budgetary is washing paint.

The entrance hall with a microco -cement looks like this.

In this corridor, a closet and walls are the same color. The paint was used, the washing. It differs from its usual water resistance and greater strength. It is resistant to wet cleaning with aggressive chemicals: you can wash the walls with any detergent, they will withstand. Such paint is, of course, more expensive, but for the hallway this is a great solution.

Furniture and storage in a narrow hallway

The main task is to avoid the clutter of space. It is recommended to arrange furniture along one of the walls. Leave the passage free.

In this hallway, we put a large swing cabinet. The facades are narrow. There is also a convenient niche for a vacuum cleaner robot. Most likely, shoes will be put there.

If you are only at the repair stage, you can think about designing niches under built -in cabinets. So we did in this hallway. Designed an open rack and a place for storing shoes. They also created a niche where a soft seat was placed on which it is convenient to sit when you shoe.

If there is no separate niche, then you can put a banquet or puff. This is what banquet looks like.

Here we put brown on black metal legs.

And so – puffs.

In this hallway, they put green.

Which decor to use

When decorating, you need to know the measure-the area is still small. Mirrors, paintings, photos are suitable.

Mirrors

Mirrors in narrow hallways item is not so much decor as the first necessity. They visually expand the space. Another large mirror near the front door is convenient. Before going out, you can always see how you look.

Then they put a mirror in the entire wall.

For this hallway, a mirror of the original shape in a metal frame was chosen. Completed backlight.

Pictures and photographs

You can hang one picture.

And you can make compositions from paintings or photos.

Frequent errors in the design of a narrow hallway

The main thing is not to make the passage too narrow. Although this zone is not functional and when planning I want to give more areas for living rooms, you should not do it. The corridor will be comfortable at least 1.20 m wide.

Apartments with a narrow long hallway are not comfortable and resemble dormitories. For example, as here.

Conclusions

For narrow corridors and hallways, light shades are best suited, you can also use dark ones, but you need to supplement them with large mirrors and backlight. For flooring and walls, it is better to use wear -resistant and practical coatings. Cabinets choose narrow or built -in, place the furniture in one of the walls, and leave the passage free. For decor, use mirrors, paintings or photos.
