When designing the appearance of the building, paint is often used very often. It allows the facade of the house to look clean and fresh for many years. But choosing such a paint for external work in today’s conditions is not so simple. Let’s find out what facade paints are and what should be taken into account when buying.
Types of facade paints for external work
All decorative facade paints for external work are divided into several varieties. Depending on the type of solvent, they are water -soluble and organic solvents. The former are more environmentally friendly than organized, since toxic resins are often used in the latter. But at the same time, they are less atmospheric, and toxicity in external works is not the most important characteristic.
Water -soluble paints include the so -called water -based (water -dispersed or latex) facade paints for external work – they are made on the basis of polymers – and minerals, which contains inorganic binders – lime, liquid glass or cement. There are also other types of colors in this category:
- Silicone – has water -repellent properties;
- Vinyl – one of the most inexpensive;
- acrylic Facade paint for external work is waterproof and vapor permeable.
Facade water -soluble paints can be used for external work on brick, concrete and even metal.
As for mineral colors, they are lime, silicate and cement. They are inexpensive, reliable, weatherproof. But they are rarely used today, mainly due to the fact that their application requires special dexterity-usually such work is entrusted to specialists. Before buying, be sure to ask which of the colors you like is suitable for your facade. Typically, such information is indicated on containers with paint. So, there are facade paints for external work on brick, metal, concrete, wood.
And, of course, paints come in various shades. Some companies trade exclusively white paint, where you can add colored pigment from the palette of the same or any other manufacturer. Computer tinting is popular today. Others are already selling mixed paints in a specific color.
Features of the choice of facade paint
Some requirements are imposed on facade paint. Adhere to them to choose a really good and high -quality product. So, the paint should:
- to be thick, but when stirring it becomes quite liquid;
- be a homogeneous consistency, without lumps (otherwise it indicates inappropriate storage conditions);
- Do not burn out, even it is dark;
- Allow it to easily clean the walls in case of their pollution.
If your house is located close to the carriageway, choose paint with hydrophobic, dirt -repellent properties. Dust and pollution from the facade painted with such paint are easily washed off by rain.
Be sure to adhere to the rules for preparing the surface indicated in the instructions. Some types of colors can be applied to the facade covered with old paint, others – only on a specially prepared and primed surface.
And one more advice – do not buy the cheapest paint. Obviously, such a product is unlikely to be of high quality. Cheap colors from unscrupulous manufacturers can quickly fade, and then re-painting will have to be carried out for 2-3 years.
Before you dwell on a particular product, calculate how many paint buckets you need, taking into account the total area of the facade and the required number of paint layers. It is better to take a little more than you need, since you are unlikely to find or mix the identical kner.
As you can see, it is not difficult to choose the best facade paint for external work, you should only study the market well and evaluate which characteristics are important for you.
