In new apartments, developers do not particularly think about acoustic comfort, so the bathroom and bathrooms do not provide for the soundproofing of the sewer riser. What materials are needed for soundproofing a riser?

First you need to understand why the sewer riser is noisy. When the water goes into the pipes, the noise reaches the level of 50 decibels. This is approximately as if two adults spoke. Typically, developers choose inexpensive sewer pipes. They meet all the requirements, but very thin. Because of this, they not only miss the noise of drained water, but also ring.

This is especially noticeable to the inhabitants of the lower floors. Still sewer pipes can be poorly fixed, which makes additional fluctuations when draining water.

To get rid of all the reasons at once and to make high -quality soundproofing of the riser, the following materials will be needed:

  • soundproofing sheets, 400×500 mm;
  • Scotch tape reinforced;
  • Plastic clamps.

The soundproofing sheets have two layers: one of the synthetic rubber with heavy mineral fillers, and the second from aluminum foil. Thanks to this combination, noise insulation turns out to be thin and effectively drowns out all extraneous sounds.

Instead of soundproofing sheets, foamed polyethylene or special sound insulation for pipe from polyurethane or rubber can be used. It is called a shell and put on directly onto the pipe.

These materials, unlike soundproofing sheets, are quite voluminous and occupy a place, which is not in the riser. And this complicates the installation process.

How to make a noise insulation of a sewer riser?

Before sound insulation, you need to clean the pipes of dust, condensate and other deposits.

Next, remove the clamps that hold the pipe in the riser. If you leave them, they will interfere with sound insulation, and it will have to be incided in it.

When the pipe is free, soundproofing sheets can be glued to it. To do this, remove the protective film from the sheet and glue it to the pipe.

For reliable fixation, the sheet needs to be carefully served in a circle so that it does not peel off in the future. It is advisable to additionally fix soundproofing on the pipe with plastic ties.

The next sheet must be glued to the pipe with an overlap on the previous sheet. This is done so that the sound does not pass through the seam between the sheets.

After all the noise insulation has been glued, the joints between the sheets are glued with a reinforcing ribbon. If desired, you can stick a second layer of sound insulation and also fix it with clamps.

Important: At the joints of the pipes there can be additional revision hatches, they need to be closed with sound insulation so that access remains. Lukes may be needed in the case of a blockage riser.

When the noise insulation of the riser is completely made, you need to put the clamps that hold the pipe. If the clamps from the developer are iron or plastic, they need to be supplemented with rubber gaskets. So the clamp will be more tightly holding the pipe and there will be no extra vibrations.

Also, rubber gaskets can be put at the top and bottom, where the pipe intersects with the floor slabs. The gasket in this case is glued to the pipe and tightened with screed. After the riser is soundproof, the sound of merging water will become much quieter, and the apartment will live much more comfortably.
