Classic interiors often involve the use of smooth lines and curved structures. That is why arched windows are typical representatives of classical design. The main decoration of this design is the upper part, made in the form of a vaulted round arc of regular shape with a given radius. The unusual shape of the window opening creates a unique atmosphere in the apartment and stylishly complements the exterior of the building.

Properties of windows with arches

This product fills the room with light and adds home comfort. But a complex window design has some disadvantages associated with manufacturing and installation, namely:

• it is necessary to observe restrictions on the ratio of the height and width of the window, on the diameter of the glass unit, on the presence of reinforcing elements;
• the arched top must be well insulated, otherwise wind and dampness can weaken the structure;
• curved sections of the frame cannot be reinforced, so additional protective elements are needed;
• the price of such a window is 2-3 times higher than the classic rectangular design.

Depending on the material used, arched windows can be plastic or wooden. Plastic windows are highly resistant to wear and have good noise and heat insulation. PVC windows are suitable for interiors in a modern style.

If you want to decorate your home using natural materials (stone, brick, wood trim, beams), then it is better to use arched windows made of wood. They will fit perfectly into eco-design and will not interfere with air microcirculation.

Houses and apartments with arched windows

Depending on the design features, the following types of windows can be distinguished:

1. Arched dormer window. This is a compact design that is installed in attic and attic spaces. An arched opening with glazing on a vertical plane is often used. The location and type of structure should be selected taking into account the location of ordinary windows, the style of the structure, in particular the roof.
2. Arched window with layout. To add charm to the product, a profile is used that divides the glass space into several sections. Thanks to this, the window takes on a romantic and vintage look.
3. Single or double leaf models. If the size of the apartment allows, then it is better to install double-hung windows. With them it will be easier to ventilate the room, and a wide window opening will let in more light. The single-leaf model is suitable for small openings in hallways.

Of course, arched window structures look best in large cottages or apartments with high ceilings. Miniature models do not create a feeling of spaciousness and luxury in the home.

How to design an arched window?

Remember that using such a design you need to decorate the entire room in a thoughtful and sophisticated style. Arched windows in the interior are a rather bold technique that does not tolerate imperfections and bad taste. Use light shades (beige, peach, mint olive and gray) and natural materials (wood, stone) in the decor. A bright room flooded with sunlight will evoke feelings of serenity and security.

With the help of properly selected curtains and blinds, you can emphasize the unusual shape of the window. For arched windows, it is advisable to choose beautiful flowing curtains, decorated with a stylishly draped lambrequin. Mobile curtains that follow the curve of the arch are also relevant. It is better to avoid straight cornices and classic curtains, as they will hide the arched window opening, which, on the contrary, needs to be emphasized.

In addition, you need to order blinds separately for arched windows. Pleated blinds, reminiscent of a woman’s fan in their shape, look ideal. They decorate the curved part of the arch. For the rectangular part, classic horizontal blinds are used.
