Of course, you can’t glue a broken cup back together, but you can use it to make an original decoration in the form of a mosaic. This also applies to broken tiles. Sometimes it is precisely such compositions that turn out to be more lively, soulful, and of course exclusive.
Broken mosaic – scope of application
Broken mosaic is perfect for original decoration of a kitchen apron. Both small pieces and whole individual parts are used. Craftsmen use lids from teapots and teapots, turning them into original hooks for potholders. Some even manage to combine individual volumetric parts harmoniously with flat pieces, then the mosaic turns out to be “alive.”
If you wish, you can decorate an entire wall in this way in the kitchen or any other room. It is not necessary to collect individual pieces all your life, because in any hardware store you can probably find such waste and buy it for free.
Often, a mosaic of broken tiles decorates paths, making the garden area especially cozy. For such purposes, matte types are usually selected so that the path does not become slippery after rain. If very small details remain after work, real works of art are created from them: they decorate larger bottles or jugs, decorate coasters for hot dishes, and simply create panels for rooms.
A mosaic made of broken dishes on the tabletop looks very beautiful. Kitchens with such countertops look especially homey and cozy. And with proper care they can last for several years. You can also lay out the mosaic with small ornaments on the columns or decorate the balcony. So the scope of application is, in principle, unlimited.
Mosaic from broken tiles – how are masterpieces created?
The principle of making a mosaic from broken dishes is no different from working with glass or tiles. Such paintings can be roughly divided into two types.
- The easiest way to create a mosaic from broken glass and tiles is to randomly arrange pieces of different colors and sizes. The more different the shades of the pieces are, the brighter the picture will be. Some manage to make color transitions or work with the size of the fragments, making smooth transitions from large details to very small ones. Both options are quite feasible for a novice builder and non-professional.
- For people with a creative approach, there is nothing difficult in making a more intricate mosaic from broken tiles with a very clear pattern. To do this, a sketch is selected, then the pieces are selected according to size and color, and if necessary, whole packages of tiles are purchased and broken on the spot. The work is quite painstaking and takes a lot of time, but the result is worth it.
The process of creating such a masterpiece is divided into several stages. There are two simple rules when creating a broken mosaic: adjacent pieces should differ from each other in size by about 20%, this also applies to color. Then your picture will turn out dynamic. If you decide to make a specific drawing, then for each part of it you will have to select pieces separately.
If you plan to make a mosaic from broken glass, you can first apply acrylic paint to the back of the pieces. So, how is a pattern created from pieces of tiles:
- first you need to select the tile itself: the shades may be different, but the thickness of the tile and its texture should be uniform;
- Next, you need to find a drawing (for beginners, a simple shape and large elements are desirable) and apply the contours to the surface;
- then the tile is wrapped in cloth and broken, the pieces are processed with tongs if necessary, and the edges are cleaned a little;
- when working, use regular ceramic tile adhesive;
- make sure that the pieces do not adjoin each other too tightly;
- at the end, everything is treated with grout for the joints and the mixture is pressed in as thoroughly as possible.
