LED strip for ceiling lighting

by decoredhome.com

Modern lighting design has many options. Bulky chandeliers are a thing of the past, and new, more practical types of indoor lighting have appeared. We bring to your attention LED strip, widely used today for ceiling lighting. It looks like a flexible tape along which conductive tracks are applied and diode light bulbs are located.

Advantages of using diode strip for ceiling lighting

When choosing the type of decorative lighting, pay attention not only to aesthetic, but also to operational properties. For example, an LED strip for ceiling lighting has undeniable advantages:

  • it is easy to install and, accordingly, dismantle;
  • the LED strip will never break like, say, a fragile chandelier;
  • the choice of colors for lighting is very wide;
  • the light strip for the ceiling will serve you for a very long time, up to 10 years;
  • its cost is relatively low;
  • diodes consume minimal energy, making this lighting option very economical.

Choosing a light strip for the ceiling

LED strips come in different varieties, and they differ not only in the color of the bulbs:

  • Based on the type of LED, strips marked SMD 5050 and SMD 3528 are distinguished. The first of them is more powerful and, accordingly, more expensive;
  • according to the density of diodes, they are as follows: 30, 60 or 120 diodes per meter, while the more diodes per meter, the brighter the strip will glow. This is relevant for functional lighting if LEDs are the main source of light in the room, and not a decorative element;
  • according to the degree of protection from moisture, LED strips can be waterproof (with silicone insulation) and non-waterproof;
  • There are tapes of all primary colors (blue, red, yellow, green, white, etc.), as well as RGB tapes that work in full color mode. Pay attention to the design of the specific room that you are going to decorate with LED strip, and the so-called psychological effect of each color;
  • LEDs from different manufacturers differ markedly in price. When choosing, take into account their quality: light bulbs in cheap strips are more likely to burn out, and over time, their color balance is often upset.

If you decide to use LED RGB strip for the lighting design of your home, pay attention to the presence of controllers, in other words, control systems that can change the brightness and color of the ceiling lighting. Otherwise, the tape will only emit white light.

Features of LED strip installation

Anyone can install LED lighting; you don’t have to be a specialist to do it. The tape is placed either behind the ceiling plinth or on a plasterboard cornice.

As a rule, LED strips are sold by 5 meters, and the first thing you need to do is cut the strip into pieces of the required length. Make cuts only in specially designated areas, otherwise you risk damaging the device. When installing the tape on the ceiling, pay attention to the cutting ratio – as a rule, it differs for different tapes.

Then you need to prepare the ceiling surface (thoroughly clean it of dust), remove the protective film from the tape and stick it on. The tape is connected as follows: connect the controller and power cord to the power supply, and the tape itself to the controller. The main rule here is to maintain polarity.

Ceiling lighting using LED strip is a practical and at the same time original design solution. It will help make your interior more stylish and functional.
