The finishing material for the floor must meet many criteria related to the operational features of the room. So, in passage areas the floor should be durable and wear-resistant, and in living rooms it should be warm and stylish. It is advisable to equip the premises where children live with a natural elastic coating. So, what flooring should you choose for a particular room? More on this below.
Bathroom
When organizing the floor in the bathroom and shower, try to select materials that have water-repellent and anti-slip properties. The following types of floor coverings meet these criteria:
- Ceramic tiles. Most popular. They have an attractive appearance, do not deform over time and do not absorb moisture. In addition, many companies produce sets of tiles for floors and walls, so the consumer does not have to struggle with the selection of finishing materials.
- Self-leveling floor. For its arrangement, a quick-hardening polymer mass is used. It makes the surface durable and perfectly smooth. An important advantage of this material is that it can be combined with photo wallpaper and other decorative decorations. Disadvantages of self-leveling floors: expensive installation and difficulties in refurbishment of the room in the future.
- Laminate. Makes the floor warm and pleasant to the touch, fills the room with special home comfort. But keep in mind that laminate does not tolerate constant accumulation of liquid and condensation, so after each bath the room must be ventilated and water stains removed from the floor.

Advice: choose embossed or rough tiles for the bathroom, as they have good anti-slip properties.

The functions of bathroom flooring can also be performed by linoleum, artificial stone and sheet vinyl.
Children’s room
Safety and naturalness are the main criteria for flooring for a children’s room. So what materials meet these requirements?
- PVC tiles. Essentially, this is the same linoleum, but made in the form of square or rectangular segments. Using tiles you can create an unusual bright floor that will become the main decoration of the room. If one of the segments is damaged, it can be quickly replaced with a new one.
- Foamed polymer. Available in the form of square tiles that are connected like puzzles. These tiles can be stacked to form miniature play mats or used throughout the entire room.
- Carpet. This flooring is perfect for a children’s room. It has good noise-absorbing properties and low thermal conductivity. But you need to look at the other side of the coin – carpet collects dust and is difficult to clean, and dirty pile can become a source of microbes.

In addition to the options listed, cork, laminate and flock are also suitable for playrooms.
Other rooms
The kitchen and hallway also need high-quality flooring. For these rooms, tiles, linoleum and laminate are best suited. If desired, you can combine two materials. Thanks to this, you will divide the room into functional zones and make the interior more original.

If you are tormented by the question of finishing the floor in the living room, then feel free to use parquet or laminate. These two options look harmonious in any interior and have a number of useful properties (durability, resistance to abrasion and stress, ease of use). If you want something exotic, then order a self-leveling floor with a 3D effect. Its glossy shine will add luxury and special shine to the room.
