Tile flooring in the bathroom is a traditional type of flooring in this room. But, be that as it may, even though this is a familiar material, the choice of tiles for the floor in the bathroom should be approached with particular scrupulousness. Why? First of all, because this is a room with special conditions and not every coating (tile) can withstand them – tiles for the bathroom floor must meet certain criteria.
Criteria for choosing bathroom floor tiles
- Since a bathroom is a room with high humidity, tiles, like flooring, must have a minimum level of moisture absorption (about 6-7%). In this regard, we can recommend rectified (or seamless) tiles. The peculiarity of the production technology of such tiles allows it to be laid practically without seams, which further reduces the likelihood of moisture penetration.
- The floor covering in the bathroom (tiles) must also have increased chemical inertness – resistance to the effects of household chemicals. This parameter must be indicated on the packaging in the form of markings: AA – very high, A – high, B – medium, C and D – low.
- Color stability and resistance to temperature changes are also important criteria that influence the choice of a particular floor tile. Another parameter is the wear resistance of the tiles. In accordance with this indicator, tiles for the bathroom floor are chosen, as a rule, from classes 1-3, intended for rooms with medium and low load intensity (for reference: the total wear resistance classes of tiles are 5)
- And, perhaps, the most important parameter in selecting bathroom floor tiles is the coefficient of friction. In this case, it should be high – 9, because the higher its value, the less slippery the tile. It can be said that the safe stay in the bathroom in the event of water getting on the floor depends on this indicator. Therefore, the best choice for a bathroom can be considered matte tiles, with some surface roughness or with relief.
Colors, sizes and designs of bathroom floor tiles
When choosing tiles for your bathroom, you should, without a doubt, take into account your individual preferences in terms of color or overall design of this finishing material. Preferable, of course, are light, neutral shades – they help to visually increase the space. While dark-colored tiles give the room solidity and solidity.
