Fire curtains

In order to protect ourselves as much as possible from the negative, and sometimes fatal, effects of various types of disasters, humanity is inventing more and more new methods and means of protection. And, perhaps, one of the most pressing issues in this regard is effective fire protection. In this regard, we can recommend paying attention to such a fairly new fire protection technology as equipping the room with fire-resistant curtains.

Roller fire curtains

First of all, it should be noted that this type of fire protection is most likely suitable for fairly large premises – warehouses, storage facilities, garages, gas stations, museums, theaters, shopping facilities, train stations, hotels, etc. Although, if desired, you can install fire curtains in residential premises (especially important for large manor-type houses). Their fire-fighting effect is based on separation and complete localization of the area with the fire from the rest of the space. Also, with the help of these curtains, the possibility of spreading suffocating smoke and combustion products is eliminated. According to the duration of resistance to fire, fire curtains are divided into several classes:

ЕI – 60, ЕI – 120, ЕI – 180, where the number corresponds to the time in minutes. In addition, there are options for fire curtains with an irrigation system and additional protection against smoke penetration. The fabric from which curtains of this type are made consists of a specific layered fabric with reinforcement. In addition, a special composition is additionally applied between the layers, characterized by high fire-resistant and heat-insulating properties. Even if the fabric has seams, this does not affect the protective properties of the curtains. To sew together fire curtains, a special metallized thread is used, which allows them to maintain their integrity even under the influence of open fire.

The operating principle of this type of fire protection is quite simple. The curtain in the form of a roll is placed in a special protective housing, and the mechanism that controls its deployment is connected to the appropriate type of alarm (smoke or fire). In the event of a fire, the fire alarm is triggered, and a signal is immediately sent to the mechanism for deploying the fire curtain – it lowers and completely covers (hermetically) the door or window opening (depending on the installation location), thereby completely cutting off the possibility of fire (smoke) spreading to other rooms.

Installation of fire curtains

According to its design features, this type of fire protection includes the following components: actual curtains made of fabric with special (in this case fire-fighting) properties, a protective box (usually steel), cut-off and guide bars, and an internal electric drive. Fire curtains can be installed in a doorway, in a window opening, or on top of a window opening. The design is so compact that it can be discreetly and conveniently placed in such a way that it will not be conspicuous and will not disrupt the overall harmony of the interior. For example, a box with a fire curtain can be installed behind a suspended ceiling. In everyday life, until the fire alarm system goes off, no one will even guess that the room is equipped with this type of protection.

Important!

When you decide to purchase fire protection curtains, opt for certified products from trusted manufacturers – this will guarantee your safety and the preservation of life in extreme situations. For the same purpose, use the services of professionals to install fire curtains.
