Fabric stretch ceilings – pros and cons

by decoredhome.com

For a holistic and harmonious perception of the room, not only the decoration of the walls and floors, but also the decoration of the ceiling is important. To make the design effective and original, we recommend installing suspended ceilings. But not known to many from PVC films, but another, more modern, variety of them (let us immediately note – not without its pros and cons) – fabric stretch ceilings. Answering the quite reasonable question of why fabric ceilings, we will consider all their pros and cons separately. So…

Advantages of fabric stretch ceilings

First of all, it should be said that the starting material for such ceilings is fabric with a special impregnation made of polyurethane, which in its performance qualities (strength, resistance to temperature fluctuations and mechanical stress) is superior to PVC film. In addition, the width of the fabric used (5 meters) allows the installation of suspended ceilings without seams, since most rooms have a width that does not exceed the width of the fabric for a fabric ceiling. An undoubted advantage is that the installation of such ceilings is much simpler than ceilings made of PVC film – there is no need to warm up either the room or the material itself. Without a doubt, the fact that fabric stretch ceilings are perfectly painted and can even be painted with a design or ornament will interest both professional designers and ordinary people in terms of creating an individual interior. And one more advantage of fabric ceilings, which allows them to be installed even in children’s and hospital institutions – high environmental safety. During operation, no harmful or toxic substances are released.

Disadvantages of fabric ceiling

To be fair, we cannot help but mention some of the disadvantages of this type of suspended ceilings. First of all, their rather high price. Fabric stretch ceilings belong to the finishing materials of a high price category. Another disadvantage of fabric ceilings is their low elasticity. Therefore, in rooms where flooding is possible (neighbors are different), it is better not to install such ceilings – they will not withstand a large volume of water (PVC ceilings stretch in such cases), and water will simply seep through such material. To this we can add the fact that in the event of even minor damage, the entire ceiling will have to be replaced, which is quite expensive and troublesome. Also, fabric stretch ceilings are difficult to clean.
