If you decide to renovate your apartment, then you cannot do without interior paint. Today, water-based paints are most often used to decorate walls and ceilings.
Water-based paint consists of a polymer – latex, filler, thickener and antiseptic. About 150-200 ml of paint is consumed per layer, but this directly depends on the absorbent properties of the base being painted.

Advantages and disadvantages of water-based paint
Water-based paint is a quick-drying coating. At temperatures of +20°C and above, as well as humidity up to 65%, it can dry out in a couple of hours.
This paint is environmentally friendly and completely harmless to humans and animals. It does not have a sharp specific odor, which can last up to 2-3 weeks, as happens with other paints. When painting walls and ceilings with water-based paint, there is no need to remove everyone from the room.
By adding the appropriate pigment to white paint, you can paint the room absolutely any color. At the same time, you can create a truly unlimited number of different shades for painting the walls and ceiling in the room.
The process of painting the ceiling and walls in a room with water-based paint is quite simple. The paint is easily washed off from all working tools.
The disadvantages of water-based paint include the impossibility of working with it at temperatures below +5°C.
Types of water-based paint
There are four main types of water-based paint on sale, which differ in the polymer they contain.
- Acrylic water-based paint for walls and ceilings – the most common type of coating. The main component in this paint is acrylic resins, which, together with latex, give the coating waterproof properties. Thanks to this, surfaces painted with acrylic water-based washable paint for walls and ceilings can be easily washed with water, without fear that the paint will wash off. In addition, such paint, applied in a double layer, can mask small cracks.
- Silicate water-based paint consists of a mixture of water, liquid glass and colored pigment. It is distinguished by good air and vapor permeability, as well as resistance to various atmospheric conditions. However, this paint should not be used in very humid environments.
- IN silicone water-based paint The main component is silicone resins. It is suitable for any surface, can paint over cracks up to 2 mm thick, has excellent vapor permeability, and is not afraid of fungus. It is possible to use silicone water-based paint in damp rooms. However, its price is quite high.
- Mineral water-based paint contains cement or lime. This paint is intended mainly for coating brick or concrete surfaces, however, it has a short service life.
- There is another type of water-based paint – polyvinyl acetate. To make it, coloring pigments are rubbed into a polyvinyl acetate emulsion. Before use, such paints are diluted with water, and you can work with them even indoors. The paint covers the surface with a high-strength film that is resistant to moisture, grease, mineral oil and light.
Water-based acrylic paint can be used on wood, brick, glass, concrete surfaces and even on primed metal.
Acrylic water-based paint for walls and ceilings can be either matte or glossy. At the same time, the latter does not fade or fade, but it can be used on perfectly smooth surfaces, since the gloss will highlight any bumps and recesses on the walls or ceiling.
