The most popular finishing material for walls is certainly wallpaper, but many people perceive them something trivial and boring. Especially for exotic lovers, manufacturers are non -standard finishing materials, one of which are cork panels for walls. They have a number of advantages that favorably distinguish them from classic paper wallpaper, tiles and plaster, namely:
- excellent thermal insulation qualities;
- stability to rot/mold;
- soundproofing;
- environmental friendliness;
- hypoallergenicity (can be used even in the children’s room);
- do not attract dust;
- Do not ignite, do not emit toxic substances.
Separately, it is worth highlighting an interesting design of wall panels, which is achieved by veneering and turning on in the surface of metal and glass granules. Thanks to this, a unique drawing is created, which cannot be repeated in factory conditions.
But manufacturers do not hide that, along with these advantages, there are also a number of disadvantages. The cork slowly restores the structure when crushing, and with constant pressure, dents remain forever. If the surface of the tile is constantly under the influence of direct sunlight, then the color can burn out and become less expressive.

Camping tiles are made granules of traffic jams. It can be one- or two-layer. Granuls of traffic jams are placed under the press, after which they take the desired texture and shape. Then the surface of the tile is covered with protective wax, which gives it additional strength and moisture resistance. The substrate usually has a width of 2-3 millimeters.
In the manufacture of a two -layer tile, an adhesive composition of natural components is applied to a layer of pressed cork, which is additionally revealed by an abbit -sized cork veneer. Using color interspersed, the plate is painted in a certain color, making the shade more saturated and interesting. The standard sizes of cork tiles have parameters of 3 x 300 x 300 and 3 x 600 x 300 millimeters.
When the decorative layer is applied, the material is covered with a special wax that allows you to use in rooms with high humidity. Thus, tiles can be faced with walls in the bathroom and kitchen.
How to glue cork panels on the walls?
For gluing, it is recommended to use polychloroprene or acrylic glue. Both types of glue have their advantages and flaws. Polychloroprene glue has a persistent unpleasant odor, and its evaporation is dangerous to health. However, this is compensated by excellent adhesive properties. The acrylic composition has no pronounced smell, is safe for humans and is convenient to work. But the speed of hardening and the connection with the surface here is much lower.
The process of gluing a cork slab itself is quite simple. A special primer is applied to pre -leveled walls using a roller or maclovor. After drying the composition on the wall, you can fix the tile. It is better to start from the inner corner, moving horizontally to the right or left. The second tile is glued to the side and so on to the opposite wall. If for the whole tile in the line there is no longer a place, then it can be cut using a knife for drywall or a metal ruler.
It is recommended to glue the next hand of the panels with the run -in joints in relation to the lower row, since the size of the panels can differ by a couple of millimeters and it will be very difficult to get the correct coincidence of the seams. In this regard, the next is best to shift from the first to a third of the tile. With this arrangement, the seams of the panels will be almost invisible.
