Modern, unpretentious in care and ordered – it is the gravel garden that has become incredibly popular in recent years. We will tell you how to show pebbles in the most advantageous light. In recent years, in European countries, both new buildings and next to the old houses, you can see sites completely covered with gravel and only pointedly planted with plants. Our delights are not yet too popular, but this is a matter of time. The gravel garden looks modern and tidy, and the care of it is minimal. If such flower beds are laid correctly, they will practically not take cares – it is enough to regularly remove the fallen leaves and remove occasionally weeds. But so that the gravel filling does not look like a thunder in the eye, a certain consistency with buildings on the site and the rest of the landscape environment is needed. So, near the house in a modern style, gravel gardens with placers from pebbles of calm tones or patterns laid out of them look best. Separate plants with a catchy “appearance” will complement the picture. In the photo below: the blue inflorescences of the catnip enriched the calm corner of the garden with paints, somewhat similar to a dried riverbed. For planting on such a rocky site, such half -brushes as Lavender, Perovsky or Cariopteris are also ideally suited. The katovnik in a rocky kindergarten as an option, on the territory covered with gravel, you can plant several trees or bushes with formed crowns, for example, in the form of balls, building them in a row or grouping them with a square. If such plants are planted one by one or distribute unevenly, landing will most likely look not too attractive. In one group, columnar and spherical plants look just perfectly, giving a small square flower garden a really extraordinary look. Column -shaped and spherical plants in one group of a gravel garden near old houses are better to break from stones, which are combined with the facade of the building in color. If, say, the house is brick, and the territory near it is covered with gravel of cold gray or white, such an ensemble looks contradictory. The older the building, the more natural the surrounding space should look like, the elaboration here is inappropriate. Another important point is the choice of plants: as in the garden in the natural style, in gravel, high decorative herbs, compact half -brushes and stunted pillow representatives of the flora will organically look organically. And in this case, it is better to plant them in groups, and not place one by one on a rocky site. The choice of the shape of stones (round or angular) also largely depends on the environment. The pellets of different shades and with a variety of stripes look especially picturesque in large territories. But crushed stone is good in small plots of the Earth. It is not recommended to mix both types of stones, and strong contrasts of colors and elaborate patterns can seem too intrusive and annoying after a while. Try to make an object with an eye on a mother nature: for example, create picturesque gravel dumps or rivers. This is easy to carry out with the help of stones of different fractions, unusual branches and snags, as well as plants typical of such an area. In the photo on the left: white acacia looks picturesque against the background of gravel reflection. Unevenly placed boulders give this garden zone a natural appearance. On the right: Green plants harmoniously coexist with stone elements. White acacia (left) and green plants (on the right) are better less, but better, it happens that the result is disappointed, as happened with the garden in the photo below. The reason for this was a mixture of too many different materials and styles, as well as inconsistency with the environment. A mixture of many different materials and styles can ultimately disappoint so that this does not happen to you, consider our recommendations:
- Adhere to the same style (even when choosing stones and plants). In the photo, elements of modern, Mediterranean and oriental styles are combined – all of them are lost against each other.
- Rounded and angular, large and small, light and dark – do not fall into the extreme, trying to place stones of all possible options on your site. Select rounded gravel or angular gravel and select the appropriate boulders.
- The environment plays a very important role: simple naked walls combined with gravel reflection look depressingly boring and dull. To breathe life into this composition, just add a couple of tall and sprawling decorative herbs to it.
The gravel flower garden will be beautiful and practical if it is properly laid and provide competent care. We take care of the garden from Kamushkov to support the purity of the territory covered in gravel – not the most difficult work. It is necessary to regularly remove fallen leaves and any plant residues with a rake or garden vacuum cleaner, otherwise organic materials will be decomposed by forming humus – an ideal fertile soil for weeds. In the fall, you can facilitate your task by pulling the net on top of gravel reflection. To prevent the appearance of moss on pebbles, choose a sunny place to lay such a site. If the plaque still has appeared, a special technique that can be found in specialized stores or on the Internet will help get rid of it. On the left: fallen leaves and plant residues can be removed by a garden vacuum cleaner. On the right: the decorative layer of stones also performs the function of mulch. We set the boundaries so that the stones do not “go on a journey” to the adjacent territories, and the “representatives” of different sizes and flowers did not mix together, we need clearly designed boundaries, especially if the gravel flower garden adjacent to the lawn or ordinary flower garden. A strong and durable edging will be made from a paving stones installed on a pillow of cement-sand mortar. A less noticeable border is obtained from metal borders, for example, stainless, galvanized or dark Cortenic steel. A less noticeable border is made from metal borders: it is impossible to step on the edging from these materials, since it is easily bending. If the gravel flower garden is on the slope, the curb should be slightly higher than the adjacent lawn or path, then the stones will not pour out of the flower garden. The slope is very cool? Break it into several even terraces and draw each at your discretion. The trimmer from the paving stones mulching of a real gravel flower garden is not enough just to distribute stones at a layer of 5-8 cm on a non-woven material. It is much more correct to mix garden soil with gravel or crushed stone to the depths of a bayonet of a shovel in order to provide ideal conditions typical for the climber for growth and development. Only after that, spread non -woven material and distribute gravel on it. A layer of stones is not only decorative – it also performs the function of mulch: it levels temperature changes and delays moisture in the ground. But precisely non -woven material prevents the growth of weeds. You may also be interesting:
