We update old furniture. Aging by staining

by decoredhome.com

Such a strangeness is obtained – we aged staining. Indeed, one of the options to update or redo the old or just boring furniture is to visually add years with decorative techniques, that is, to age. We are trying to hide traces of time on our faces, but the age gives the furniture, on the contrary, the age gives a certain charm. In the traces of time there is a certain charm of things with the story “make” the interior, bringing a highlight and uniqueness into it. If you do not have ancient chests of drawers – it does not matter, you can always add years to the subject of an uncomfortable age. Let’s talk about ways to age furniture. The coloring “under the antiquity” in the publication we update the old furniture. Color: decorative ideas for inspiration was about the fact that the easiest way to renew the boring furniture is to paint it. One of the options is painting “under the old days.” To understand how to do this, imagine what an old closet, a chest of drawers or a buffet, previously painted look like. The old paint on furniture is something like in the photo above: over time, the layer of paint was peeled in places, wiped and cracked. Tightly take a carefully updated item. Where is the paint the most of all? Where the main load has to be on it, in places where the subject is most touched with hands or it is more often subjected to friction: at the corners and faces, on the protruding relief of the thread, near the handles. If there is a horizontal surface (countertop), it will be rubbed where a person rests on it, sitting at a table or working. Having determined the places of future “scuffs”, you can proceed to their creation. But for starters, you will need to carry out the preparatory work described in the publication coloring: preparatory work. To create decorative scuffs, you need at least 2 shade: the color of the base and the top layer. Decorative meanings in the choice of color combinations are opened with a wide field for experiments. The most traditional solution is “a dark bottom, light top”: the base is made more dark, and shades of white, cream, pastel colors are used for the surface layer. But this is not a rule, choose shades to your liking. If furniture is made of a real tree, then the dark texture of wood can become the color of the base, then it will only be necessary to choose the color of the paint for the finish. By the way, dark varnished furniture of the Soviet era is quite suitable as a base. It is only necessary to remove the varnish gloss to improve adhesion (sticking). If the furniture is not wooden, you supplemented it not with wooden details or its natural color does not fit your idea, first paint the furniture in the color of the base. The basis can be of any color to accelerate the aging process, it is necessary that the paint in the places of conceived scuffs is poorly bored. Most often, a wax or paraffin coating is used for this. You can simply grate the selected places or melt the paraffin with a candle and apply it with a brush. Now is the time to cover the finish layer of paint. After it is completely dry, with the help of a rag, remove it in places covered with wax: poorly adhering due to the wax coating, it will open the lower color. Poorly adhered due to the wax coating, the paint will open the lower color more time-consuming option-a multi-layer coating. This is an imitation of a very old thing, repeatedly repainted. The technology is the same: stain in the base color, apply wax, paint a second layer of a different color, again apply wax in the right places and cover with another layer – again a different color. After drying, we remove excess paint. Decorative scuffs on furniture can be done without wax. We tint the tree with a stain, and then stain. After drying the paint, take the abrasive skin and remove the excess – we process the painted surface until the desired result is achieved. We remove excess paint with a grinding skin after grinding should be covered with transparent varnish for fixing, because the colorful layer is broken by an abrasive. Please note: a stain and paint should have the same composition. For example, for water -based colors, choose a water stain. Decorative “pollution” another method using paint to add years to a table or stool is an imitation of old mud. It is no secret that pollution accumulates from prolonged use on the surface. Traces of “long operation” can be drawn in two ways.

  • Lessing coatings

We use translucent paints or varnishes, they are also called Lazuri, Glaise differently. They are applied to a pre -painted surface, and then partially washed with a rag or sponge, without waiting for drying. The lazuling ceremony will remain in the recesses, emphasizing the irregularities. This coating looks most impressive on reliefs or textured surface. The combinations of the basic paint and the Glaise can vary endlessly. Translucent coatings come in different colors, as well as pearlescent or with metal shades. Or, conversely, you can paint an item with a paint that simulates bronze, gold, copper or silver and use a darkly glaze. The result is the surface of “old bronze”, “patched copper” or “cherished silver” (depending on the color of the base).

  • Coloring with a dry brush

If the surface of the reduced furniture does not differ in particular relief, the “dry brush” coloring method is used. First, stain the item with a base of the basic shade, and after it dries, apply the second – decorative. Coloring by dry brush. Photos from the site nashhaotdelka.ru take the brush, dip in the paint, and then remove the excess part – wipe the brush on paper or rag until it becomes almost dry. Now we apply it tinting strokes in those places where dirt accumulates in natural conditions – in recesses, seams. Make sure that the strokes are natural – in the direction of the wood fibers. In this way, you can simulate scuffs. Only in this case, tinting smears, on the contrary, are applied to the protruding parts-where it is more time. Toning Morilkaetoth is more suitable for remaking old furniture, but for coloring “under the old” new. The stain is applied to the surface of the tree, and then, while the coating has not yet dried up, the excess is erased by a rag. The stain emphasizes the texture of wood and softer areas of wood absorb the coloring composition, and it wipes off with dense. The operation can be repeated if the result does not satisfy. Try to use stains of different shades, only before covering the finished product to experiment on an unnecessary piece of wood or where it will not be visible. After the treated surface dries, you can additionally cover the furniture with a pearl glamor. Well, process transparent varnish to protect the decorative layer. The methods of artificial aging using paint also include craquelure and gilding. And also aging the surface of wooden furniture can be breastfeeding and firing.
