The fashion for rusty metal came to us from the good old Great Britain, because the main trends of garden design are invariably set by the annual London exhibition Chelsea Flower Show. And it is on it for many years in a row that eminent designers represent the author’s gardens, the design of which contains a variety of accessories with a beautiful rusty raid. Russian landscape festivals did not lag behind the legislator of trends – especially a lot of rusty decor could be seen in the first years of their existence. But let’s take a closer look at these details, we’ll figure out what they are made of, and we will understand whether all this “rust” has the right to become the subject of must have in our areas. The rusty decor is very often used by designers to create thematic gardens at landscape exhibitions and festivals as the fashion on rusty details on rusty details in modern gardens appeared firmly and spread massively thanks to the use of Cortenic steel, which was invented not at all for the decor. This reliable durable material was created by a serious American steel company in the 30s of the last century for use in large-scale construction. Cor-Ten steel has found the use of the same rust in the design on the surface of Cortenic alloy steel very reliably “preserves” it and, oddly enough, protects against corrosion (while ordinary rust on ordinary metal behaves completely differently). Moreover, in the first few years, the surface has a “metal” coloring and texture. But under the influence of atmospheric phenomena, oxidation inevitably occurs, and a velvet and uniform rust appears on the steel. That is why Cortenic steel liked industrial and then landscape designers. The same furniture can be placed in a quiet corner of the garden, decorated in Provence style. But with one condition – they are intended only for admiring, sitting on them is forbidden. For a more adventing picture on a bench or table, you can put a clay pot with lavender or a small hydrangea of large -leaved, an old kerosene flashlight or a metal organizer with rusty manual garden instruments. Such a corner was created only for admiring justice for the sake of I must say that the all kinds of rusty little things were always in classical European and English gardens. Those who include a visit to open private gardens on their travels around the world have met such cute accessories. Some objects are nobly aged in the shed and then successfully settle in flower beds-simply because “it is a pity to throw out.” Others themselves asked in their hands when visiting the garden center and were advantageously attached. In other gardens, such vintage gizmos are associated with family history and become the special pride of the owners who gave them a second life. Small garden decor for rusty stylish things is important to find a suitable environment. For example, an openwork ball or a small sculpture will be lost in a flower garden with plants with wine, copper, bronze and terracotta leaves or flowers (New Zealand sedge, bubble of the Kalinolite ‘Diabolo’, Irisov ‘Gypsy Caravan’, ‘Stop The Music’, ‘Supreme SULTAN ‘, red -leaved barberry, majority of Geiher and Heiherell, etc.). If such plants are still present in the composition, then they should be used at a minimum as accents, and the main filling is made up of species and varieties with decorative green or bordered leaves, white, pink, blue and purple flowers. Someone, for example, loves vintage objects, but does not take them in such an “indecent” appearance. They can only earn the right to decorate the garden when they are repainted in a “decent” color. Someone allows the appearance of a small aged garden plate in a flower garden, but the rusty support for plants will never be perceived as a design object. Not everyone likes rust. Someone loves only bright accents in the garden and the fashion is changeable. What once seemed relevant to us himself today looks inappropriate. The hobby of rust is no exception, even festival gardens have recently moved away from this trend.
