The first brick buildings began to appear even in biblical times. True, at first, unbighted material was used, but very quickly people realized that after processing by fire, the mechanical qualities of clay increase sharply. Gradually, the shape of the bricks changed, they became more and more perfect, attractive. A patterned masonry was invented, and buildings from this material became real works of art. Since ancient Mesopotamia and Rome, a lot has changed, but now the houses built by good masters of yellow or colored facing brick have been pleasing to the eye no less than buildings lined with plaster or facade panels.

How to choose a facing brick?

In this matter, the following parameters should be taken into account:

  • the size of the facing brick;
  • color of the material;
  • check the brick for defects;
  • strength;
  • frost resistance;
  • thermal conductivity.

Both ordinary and colored facing brick – all of them are done according to the established standard. There are three main sizes for this building material:

  • 250x120x65 mm;
  • 250x60x65 mm;
  • 250x22x65 mm.

The first type can be called universal, it goes, both for ordinary masonry and for cladding. The second (narrow) can be allowed only for facing work. But the third largest already resembles tiles rather than brick. It can only be used to finish the perfect flat plane. You will immediately notice that there are hollow bricks and there are whole ones. Hollowers are practically not inferior in strength to their brothers, but the walls of them are noticeably warmer.

The appearance of the material can also tell a lot. If you noticed cracks or vitreous intersperses when buying, then most likely it was burned. But the pink shade indicates the opposite, such a brick has undergone insufficient heat treatment.

Light spots on the facing brick can indicate possible interspersed lime, and white stains on its surface indicate that there are impurities of some salt in the material. It is clear that it is impossible to make a chemical analysis to a simple consumer. Therefore, try to buy a beautiful look of a facing brick with a homogeneous structure of a bright saturated shade.

Marking of the facing brick

The inscriptions on the material are made for a reason, they talk about the strength of the product. Frost resistance is marked with the letter “F” and several digits from 35 to 100, the higher the number, the better for the buyer. The strength is indicated by the letter “M”. For example, the brick of the M25 brand cannot be called particularly persistent. M50 is already the quality of the middle class. If the funds allow, then buy a brick with the inscription M150, it can be called durable and most reliable material. If possible, check one sample or several pieces using a regular hammer. A weak brick from the blow will instantly fly into small pieces, and more durable or divided into several large parts, or even remains intact.

The color of the facing brick for the facade

In the old days, the color of the products depended mainly only on the clay variety, it was because of this in Europe the house was noticeably brighter than in Russia. Nowadays, everything is decided by special additives that can paint bricks in any color of the rainbow. Therefore, you can easily produce, like a facing brick, having a straw color, and brown facing brick. All this makes it possible to solve the most daring design ideas. For example, lovers of classics and conservatives will suit the red or blue color of the facade, which always looks solemn and solid. If your mansion is on the hill, and you want to increase its visibility, then buy a brick of some brighter and more cheerful shade-orange, peach or other. You can combine various shades, experiment using all the facad arrangement opportunities that have presented in our time.
