DIY Garden Bench Restoration

by decoredhome.com

I have a colleague who lives next to my cottage. I must say, a very convenient colleague, because on Friday to getting to the dacha is more pleasant than in the train. Once he complained to me on the old garden bench, with which the yacht varnish was completely peeled. I advised to cover it with oil: it certainly does not get off. In the country, I had an open bank of tung oil Drewnochron. On the coming Friday, I took a jar with me, a new petal disk for a grinder and went to visit a colleague to restore an old garden bench. The weather was excellent – the sun and temperature +22ºC. On the back of the bench, the varnish still somehow held on, but from the seat of tears by 80 percent. Over time, the bench became not at all pretty. What will restoration consist of? From the rolling of the bench, the removal of the remains of the varnish and the coating with oil. First, we install a petal nozzle with large grain on a grinder. It is better to take a grinder with adjustable speeds, because at high speeds the tree burns out a little. You need to grind only on the street: dust is worth a pillar! “And the respirator will not hurt,” I hear a replica from the hall. The process of stressing the bench took about 45 minutes with a smoke break. In my opinion, it turned out well. At first, I planned after the petal nozzle to walk along the shop with a smaller skin – P 60. Then the surface would become smoother, the oil consumption is smaller, and the shade was lighter. But something was fan of dusting for me. For painting the bench, I brought the Drewno Chron -color, which begun the bank of terrace tung oil. I have repeatedly used the oil of this brand, it is relatively inexpensive and lies smooth. It is applied with an ordinary household sponge. There were no lips at hand. The colleague cut off a couple of pieces of foam rubber – in principle, for this purpose and foam will fit. Dip the sponge into the oil and apply to the surface. We rub the oil with the second sponge and remove the smudges. The oil consumption is minimal – it took no more than 100 g. There was a spruce shop for painting the bench – the rosewood became. In order to qualitatively cover the street bench with oil, it must be covered in a dry room at a temperature above +20ºC and low humidity. But there is not always such a room at hand. Here you have to catch a sunny day. Before lunch, grind and cover with the first layer. We put the bench to heat up in the sun. In the sun, oil is polymerized much faster. After lunch, apply the second layer – and again set in the sun. 2-3 hours in the sun-and the coating has dried perfectly. The old shop has become new. The second layer of oil does not greatly obscure the texture. What is all the same to cover street furniture? Every active summer resident faces this question. I myself set it for myself after painting the next shop or stool. What to choose: yacht varnish, oil, oil-water, polyurethane varnish or epoxy resin? Or terrace oil … and which company? In the room, all these coatings behave quite predictably – but on the street? The yacht varnish in my two friends began to get off street benches in two seasons. But on a couple of mytaburettes, he lasts perfectly for more than 3 years. And these stools very often walk in the summer in the garden, they are forgotten for a week in the garden. But the varnish, however, holds … To answer these questions, you need to test several samples of both. He began to buy different jars from different manufacturers. But very soon I realized that there would not be enough money to “try everything”. And a long -term test may not have enough life. For example, I stopped a bank on the 17th Liberon oil oil: for the third year, my hands have not reached something to cover. In general, I use what I have already bought. To buy new banks, the toad strangles. Maybe one of the teammates will share their experience? Fans of everything with their own hands will probably be useful to other materials on this topic – after all, proper painting, repair and restoration extend the life of their favorite things and save the budget:

  • Even through holes in the door from the old lock can be perfectly sealed, and the canvas can be repaired
  • Do -it -yourself restoration
  • Restoration of the rarity regiment of the time of the USSR
  • How to remove chips and scratches on furniture, laminate and wood
